I lost my husband 3 1/2 years ago to congestive heart failure. With no life insurance, and half of my income gone, I had no choice but to go back to work immediately. Pushing grief away is unhealthy, makes for less productive employees, increases depression, and speaks poorly of us as a society. Please show you respect people enough to afford them a sufficient time to grieve someone. 1 week off after the loss of someone you loved for 10 years is not acceptable.

We are human beings, not machines. We need to be allowed to grieve the loss of spouses, children, other close family members.

Please change FMLA laws. How can you possibly work 3 days after the love of your life dies?

You cannot possibly be ready for work after 3 days! My husband was killed in an accident out of state. Not only was I in shock, but had to plan many details and figure out how to get his body home. Work was the last thing on my mind for quite a long time.

Losing a child or a spouse has to be the worst experience in a persons life. Bereavement time should absolutely be covered by FMLA.

I was widowed at the age of 28 yrs old with a 2 yr old. My husband was on life support for 3 days following an accident. Three days is definitely not enough time to grieve; grief does not have a timeline.
