    Being on the other spectrum of research (computer science), I believe political science is not to be be deemed meritless by politicians. Distinguishing between actual research and not is another issue, to be dealt with by the NSF on a case by case basis.

    I am a Ph.D. Candidate in Political Science doing research on what gets young people of immigrant background to identify with and participate in the societies they live in -- because alienation and extremism can make headway where this civic engagement is absent. My research project is only made possible by a small NSF doctoral dissertation grant. Please keep these programs funded.
