Political Science funding is important to furthering scholarship and learning. Also, Congress should not involve itself directly in the peer review process.May 15th, 2012Someone from Bloomington, IN signed.

In 1966, I received $131,800 from the National Science Foundation (Grant GS-1418) for a comparative analysis of political parties in 50 countries outside the United States. The funds supported scores of undergraduate and graduate students and led to three books. In 1990, during perestroika in the Soviet Union, I was invited by the USSR Academy of Social Sciences to visit for a week concerning the prospects of developing a multiparty system there. Thanks to my NSF grant, I was able to advance understanding of party politics in other nations.REPORT COMMENTS

NSF funding of projects in political science answer questions that are relevant to real world problems and issues that make a difference outside the halls of academia. These projects study issues that Congress and other branches of government are trying to solve, including terrorism, civic engagement, poverty, health care, and efficient use of tax payer dollars. These studies undergo a rigorous process in order to be approved and provide an invaluable source of non-partisan research on policy solutions. Please do not cut NSF political science funding.REPORT COMMENTS

Political Science research is in the public interest. Without scientifically rigorous, non-partisan research into war, elections, policy, and government, our nation is doomed to make avoidable errors with dire consequences. The nation which spurns science does so at its own future peril.REPORT COMMENTS
