The scientific study of social and political phenomena is necessary for the evaluation of policy solutions, the design of high-functioning institutions, and the minimization of human suffering. To eliminate funding for normal science in this area is to move down a path where guesswork and partisan rhetoric dominate our collective decisions.May 16th, 2012Someone from Ann Arbor, MI signed.
May 16th, 2012Someone from Radford, VA writes:
I am empathetic as a citizen, taxpayer, and scientist that these are unprecedented economic times and that tough fiscal decisions must be made. However, this is not a cost effective, efficient or effective measure to save public money. In a time when the only real question for most Americans is not "are you dissatisfied with the way make policy?" but, "how dissatisfied are you?", it seems particularly unwise for politicians to reduce funding that potentially examines their behavior. It appears unwise in the real loss to scientific knowledge, but it also seems inadvisable politically. Please do not cut NSF funding in any area, and particularly not in political science.REPORT COMMENTS

This saves $0. It demands that NSF forego its usual scientific criteria and peer review process, shifting funds away from a specific program and its projects at the political whim of Congress.REPORT COMMENTS
