Its not fair. I want to be able to marry my inmate. This is discrimination and unconstitutional. Prisons should allow marriages by proxy or allow marriages in prisons. Inmates have rights too.

This new HB869 is a violation of our constitutional right to be able to get married. My Husband and I were able to have a marriage by proxy before this new house bill went into effect and I thank God for blessing me with my incarcerated husband. Just because he is locked up doesn't mean that he doesn't love and doesn't want to be able to do right because of the fact that he has a wife and family to come home to because I have seen the changes in my husband's character since we got married. If someone wants to get married then no one should be allowed to interfere with that unless of course they are minors. If there have been issues with people getting married because they are trying to scam someone then I feel they should add more requirements to being able to acquire the marriage license but they shouldn't make it impossible for someone to get married just because of them being incarcerated. Inmates are humans too just like the rest of us that are free out on the streets and just because they made a mistake that caused them to be incarcerated doesn't mean that all their rights as a human being and U.S. citizen have been stripped away from then because they do have rights too and should be treated as human beings just like everyone else. This house bill is just another way of trying to strip our rights away from us as U.S. citizens which is unconstitutional. The prisons claim to want to encourage relationships between those incarcerated and their families to help them want to be more productive citizens once they are released and yet this house bill does just the opposite of encouraging them to do good, it just gives them one more thing to not want to change their ways because of the mistreatment they already face as inmates. This house bill is in violation of our 2nd and 14th amendments to begin with and should never have been allowed to pass to begin with. This house bill ultimately could cost the State and legal U.S. citizens a lot of time and money with all the lawsuits that the courts will have to deal with because of this house bill violating our constitutional rights to be allowed to get married.
