I am a Chinook Indian. I'm 72 yrs. old and have attended Chinook tribal gatherings up & down the Columbia River & Willapa Bay all my life. I attended South Bend schools who call themselves So. Bend Indians in honer of the Willapa Bay Chinooks. We Chinooks are still here by the hundreds. In 2oo5 the Chinook Nation hosted the Lewis & Clark expedition at Chinook not far from Station Camp. We fed several hundred people a Salmon feast that weekend. We Chinooks are still here and wanting to be acknowledged we arn't extinct!!!REPORT COMMENTS

Some of the most sophisticated peoples in trade and commerce for over 1000 years. When Lewis and Clark met up with the Chinook they noted the several languges the Chinook could speak and the Spanish clothing many wore. (Columbia River) This was a huge nation and to not give them recognition and restoration, is a discrace to this country. As my Great Grandmother would say "I am but one tanis coochman"REPORT COMMENTS

The idea that some of the tribes in the area have their recognition but not the Chinook tribe does not shows a bias among the legislation and should be over turnes and the Chinook nation should once again be whole.REPORT COMMENTS
