I am a mother of 4 boys with what they call high functioning autism you would think well they are functioning. Well each of my children have secondary issues including anxiety, disruptive disorder, hyperactivity, impulsive, and inattentive and some other acronyms. I went to school and was not able to use my degree to return to work like I planned. I now deal with appointments , schools, teachers, etc. my children require an amount of time and dedication that is not work friendly. My husband is the main earner in our home and it put a strain on the finances to have to pay copays, therapies, and medications even with insurance the amount of money spent is significant . Relief would be nice, or maybe a reduction of the monthly payment.REPORT COMMENTS

My wife Jessica and I are parents of a severely disabled child named Jude, 4, who requires 24 hour care making it impossible for my wife to find employment. Jessica has student loans of approximately $40,000 which we are struggling to pay while maintaining a mortgage for a home in a good school district for our other son, Tristan, who is six, a vehicle loan, and all of the other expenses that come with having a family. I am a non-college educated man earning $48,000 annually working for the NYS Dept of Tax and Finance. Though we are currently able to keep our heads above water and avoiding bankruptcy, we are only able to do so by sacraficing everything we don't need to survive. At 1000 sq ft, our home is smaller than most apartments and will no longer suffice at all once Jude becomes too heavy to carry as the home is not suitable for wheelchair use. Our hope is to add an addition to our home to include larger doorways and a handicapped accessible bathroom. We would obviously need to take out a loan for these improvements but there is just nothing left in our budget for such an investment. If Jessica's student loans could be forgiven, we could use the $500/month were paying to them on the improvements we need to make to our home. I'm sure you can appreciate the frustration of paying do much for an education with the understanding that you'll be able to find employment to pay it off just to be dealt a hand that prevents exactly that. We try hard, we pay all of our bills on time, we don't take vacations or buy things not necessary to continue our struggle but we're near the end of our rope and need help. Just enough help to not allow things to get worse for us. The eliminations of Jessica's student loan responsibility may be just enough to allow us to keep moving forward. I have so much student loan debt! I received an AA about 26+ years ago. I have not been able to work. I have 3 children...2 have autism and one of them also has epilepsy. I have spent all my time caring for them. I tried going back to school in the Fall 2015. I did complete the term but not without difficulty. My son was hospitalized twice, one resulting in brain surgery. I really need to learn a skill so that I can go back into the work force. I have waited for years for my husband to take care of me.... I can't wait anymore. My autistic daughter is planning to go into the culinary and pastry program at Virginia College. I so badly want to go! I believe it would be good to be there for my daughter as well. I was so excited about this possibility but my student loan debt and not being eligible for Pell grants killed it for me. Please help me. I need student loan forgiveness real bad. I want to feel I can do something to help myself and I want to see that my children can do something as well. Thank you for your time. My 4 year old daughter has Autism and requires many early intervention therapies and a special diet that can become quite costly. I am the sole income provider for my family of 3. With a Student debt totaling close to $60,000, having this debt forgiven would be great. I fully support this petition, and would love to see families like mine find the assistance they need. Too often in this country these days do we see families that make too much to receive assistance (food stamps etc..) but not enough to be able to handle all that is necessary on their own. I have a toddler son who is autistic. Because of his autism spectrum disorder creating major development delays, I am needed at home full time. My husband works full time and more, but the amount he earns does not get us from paycheck to paycheck. I am not sure how we are going to afford to pay my student loans in six months. In my opinion, if single mom's get financial relief, I strongly feel that families that have a proven disabled child deserve the opportunity to receive relief on college educational loans as well. We are families that are taking care of children that need special care, giving less or no opportunities for parents to make the neccessary income to live on. As it is, we as parents already have an extra financial responsibilities towards medical needs and special needs that are not covered by medical insurances. Here is another thought, there is also loan forgiveness opportunities for teachers in public schools who work all children including special needs children. Some of the parents with disabled children need to be the teacher for home schooled kids with disabilities. However, the parents do not get the same opportunity to receive help in loan relief. I am asking on behalf of all parents or guardians that have a disabled child to have the ability to receive student loan relief. Please keep in mind, taking care of a disabled child is beyond a full time job and is all of the child's adolescent years and some beyond.REPORT COMMENTS

I have a one year old with a mitochondrial disorder. She is not meeting her milestones and has to have physical, occupational and speech therapy. I finished my B.S. degree in radiologic sciences and was planning on continuing my education to become a Physician Assistant. Unfortunately, the dream of getting a Master's degree is on permanent hold.
