These positions were not originally full time positions and should never be. The Senators were originally statesman, State Appointed positions thus accountable to only to the states they represented, and not elected. US Senators should be appointed by state governors.

Common sense should have dictated this idea from the very beginning of our government - but then when has common sense ever been a part of government! Oh well, no time like the present.

Congressional Reform Act of 2012 1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office. 2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow in to the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose. 3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do. 4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%. 5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people. 6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people. 7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 12/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women. Congress made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

THIS SHOULD ALSO APPLY TO MEDICAL BENEFITS. GOVERNMENT RETIREES SHOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR MEDICAL BENEFITS JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER RETIRED CITIZEN IN THIS COUNTRY.

It is about time we get Congress in check. They have raped the citizens of this great country for too long, doing nothing but feathering their own nests. Let's gain momentum on this proposed amendment. Power to the citizens!!!!!

I too am a veteran, I served in the United States Navy for 14 years and it has to be fair across the board, the people in all military branches are highly educated and deserve more than what they are being afforded and even moreso, deserve to be treated better and more fairly. I know when I served, I didn't join for the pay, I served for other reasons but I know the pay needs to get better, barely enough to feed a family.....
