All sciences need to be funded for societies to evolve and prosper for all its people's. Without it only the strong survive and less educated are exploited by the their government.

Eliminating funding that helps both citizens and leaders determine how best to manage conflict - which is fundamentally what politics is - is shameful. It seems to appear a way to make the process of politics even less transparent.

WIllful ignorance of the causes and consequences of our politics will not make them better.

This is the worst kind of thinly-veiled ideological censorship of studies that challenge the motives and actions of politicians. Political science receives $11 million dollars in funding out of the NSF's total budget of $7 billion. That's 0.1% - that's right, one tenth of one percent - of total funding for the sciences. Eric Cantor wants me to believe that that .1% is the difference-maker between finding a cure for cancer and not? This is not a zero-sum game - this research benefits everyone, especially policy-makers!
