In December 1980, I was arrested and charged with multiple felony crimes in Portsmouth, Virginia (Armed Robbery). The Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court (Judge) held a transfer hearing pursuant to Va. Code 16.1-269.1 and certified these charges to the Circuit Court of Portsmouth (VA). My mother was called (and used) by the Commonwealth Attorney's Office as a witness (to testify against me), and the court (and police department) failed to make reasonable efforts to locate (or contact) my "biological father" in violation of Va. Code 16.1-263 and 16.1-264. This in itself was a conflict of interest of the law, because my mother "CANNOT" be my witness and a witness for the Commonwealth at the same time, and no reasonable efforts to call or locate my father was made by the court (or the police department). Therefore, I never received a "fair trial" and the circuit court lacked jurisdiction to try me as an adult because the juvenile and domestic relations district court did not comply with the mandatory notice requirements of Va. Code 16.1-263 and 16.1-264 concerning the initiation of proceedings against a juvenile. I was unlawfully and erroneously held in prison for 24 years before being released on July 21, 2004. I was only 17 years old then, and I'm 51 years old now. Even though I am back in society now, but I CANNOT hold a public office position, I CANNOT vote, and I CANNOT get hired as an ordinary citizen on a good job because of this criminal record. HOW WILL I EVER BE ABLE TO PROVIDE FOR MY FAMILY (OR MYSELF) IF MY RIGHTS WILL NEVER BE RESTORED BACK TO ME AS AN ORDINARY CITIZEN UNDER THE CONSTITUTION and LAWS OF THESE UNITED STATES?REPORT COMMENTS

I have not been convicted of a crime, however I see the effects of an offense on person I care about. He has changed his life completely for himself, family, and community. He is a community leader (a pastor), he assist the homeless, creates community programs, encourage and teach those who are trying to defeat drug addictions and a host of other things but his past shall remain his present when it comes to seeking employment other positive opportunities.REPORT COMMENTS

I've spent over $5,000 trying to get my rights to bear arms back. I made many mistakes in my youth but since then I've grown to be a fine man of God I'm a business owner that's good enough to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of payroll taxes a year I'm good enough to own my own home and my own business but I don't have a right to defend them in these crazy timesREPORT COMMENTS

After a period of 10 years after payment of all fines and release from probation if no other crime has been committed a person deserves to get on with there life. Not a life sentence. The way it is set up, your better off to move to another country. Come back and all is forgiven..REPORT COMMENTS

It is demoralizing that we live in a country that as youths we can make ignorant mistakes that can cost us the rest of our lives. We have A justice system so that people can be convicted and serve their sentence. That conviction should not cost anyone their futureREPORT COMMENTS

These individuals have paid their dues for their crime as determined by the courts. If they are released and there is no appropriate plan (more than just work release) for them- we can expect them to return to their old ways...especially those with drug addiction. IF our community does not allow them to find employment compatible to their interests and abilities, aren't we setting them up for failure- again. Here is a better way of dealing with the problem- read/watch http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/22/war-on-drugs-treatment_n_3792445.htmlREPORT COMMENTS
