Its past time for stigma to be gone and to honor and respect those who suffer from mental illness and assist them on a road to recovery - which isn't easy with our broken mental-health system in every state, ruled by legislators who have no clue and worse don't care, along with our prohibitive mental-health laws, and the restrictions placed on communications with a patient's family. People who truly care must speak up for those who have no voice or care, when they have a brain illness is discrimination that needs to be unlawful.REPORT COMMENTS

I live in the Eastern Sierra in calif. where there is NO facility for 100s of miles where I can take my love Travis to. He has gotten so worse and when sent to the ER they released him when he should have had a complete psych eval. His family has written him off. I was his patient advocate yet they came and took him away because he self medicates with marijuana while running the family's hotel. They treat him like a 5 yr old, sending him from one relative to another and get angry because he uses pot. But instead of getting him to the care he needs they blame him for the pot use instead of treatment for his bipolar disorder..now I fear with his delusional thinking and actions that now he is schizophrenic as well. Even with as many times as the police have been called he can't get admitted..and no one will talk about it. They just think all he only just a pothead and not actually ill at all. He was treated for bipolar disorder here but like last year, no one will follow up when he is with his family who are in denial. They think if he gets off the pot he will be fine...it breaks my heart..please do something whether its better access to mental health care, stop the stigma and educate government and the public that mental illness is SERIOUS, needs treatment and can be just as DEADLY as heart disease or diabetes....thank you.REPORT COMMENTS
