All killings in pounds should be stopped, it is not fair for us humans to decide on other species death and when their time will come, humans are not God. Living, breathing animals deserves a chance to live!!

There is no justification for killing adoptable and treatable shelter animals when there is a viable lifesaving alternative- No Kill. Kill pounds should embrace No Kill Shelter Reform! No Kill is a proven success that is saving lives right now in major cities across the country such as Austin, Texas, El Paso, Texas, Reno, Nevada and Portland, Oregon. Austin’s OPEN-ADMISSION municipal shelter managed to save the lives of 99% of all Dogs (including 99% of Pit Bulls) and 96% of all Cats taken in during 2017. Life affirming Legislation such as the Companion Animal Protection Act (CAPA) should be passed across the country to put restrictions on killing for those Kill pounds who refuse to enact No Kill. Animal Control Centers should also be regulated to ensure that Shelter Animals are being protected and saved rather than being summarily killed. All efforts should be made to work with rescues and the community to network these shelter animals for adoption. This Petition should address these important concerns.

I'm not signing a petition to shut down all shelters, just High Kill ones and animal control centers if they kill the animal without even trying to find them homes!! There are times when animals need protection from abusers, and in those cases, we DO need animal control!! The shelters need to ALL GO NO KILL and give the animals at the shelters time to be adopted or fostered!! The NO KILL shelters that really are NO KILL keep the animals until they get adopted!! Now that is a TRUE NO KILL SHELTER!! We can't just let animals run as strays!! That is not the answer either! IF shelters were held accountable LEGALLY, we would see a lot less animals being euthanized!! I would be for REGULATIONS AND ONLY USING HUMANE EUTHANASIA METHODS FOR SICK OR SEVERELY INJURED ANIMALS WITH A POOR PROGNOSIS ONLY!!! This petition should be calling for all the above!!!

Yes shelters need to be closed in every state. I visited one recently and came out crying and depressed just to see the poor dogs. They dont let them outside for bathroom breaks they just relieve themselves in the kennel. Disusting woman working there had such attitude drags one dog out and yells he is gonna be euthaized today we have no space. Just to see this in such a short visit makes me sick. Better for dogs to be running free. Humans dont get it that bringing pet to shelter is a death sentence. America needs to change this cannot be ongoing.

Why not just let the animals be free and get rid of these stupid animal prisons? Have you good people not noticed even the no-kill shelters are prisons? It sounds anarchist but animals are NOT made to be imprisoned. Yes that is to say some should roam free. Dogs in other countries roam free and are treated very well. The media makes it look like they are not but they are. People own dogs or the dogs just live on streets and have been living that way for millenia. They are neighborhood dogs. Secondly, I was a homeless man who lived with my dog but he had me to watch over him. No shelter would adopt a dog to me as I needed a companion so I had to resort to a backyard breeder. That dog is my companion to this darn day and I love him to death and beyond. Thirdly, many landlords don't allow people to keep pets so what can people do when they want to adopt? The Native Americans lived here for thousands of years and thrived until the European fool set foot on this land. What we know as America has only been around for about 200 some odd years or should I say tears and look at where it's going. KEEP THINGS NATURAL. LET NATURE FIX ITSELF. I THINK INNOVATIVE HUMANS HAVE DONE ENOUGH TO "FIX" THE WORLD.........and animals are sick of us. -Sammy B. Soufi

Just not right it's not humane. People need to be accountable for getting the dog and understanding why they're getting it.

I hate these stupid things!!!!!! It's evil. The female dogs in them shouldn't be the only one known by that name. The people who kill the poor animals are, in my mind, Satan itself. LET THE ANIMALS LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
