Endometriosis causeschronic pain and debilitating pain! I've gone from having an active life to dealing with pain 24/7. I spend most of my days in bed suffering waiting and wanting to die. There are times the pain is so bad I cry and ask God to ease the pain or take my life. I have considered suicide many times. If not for my son and religious beliefs I would not be here today. I worry about the day I can no longer handle my pain and I end my life. My mind and body has it's limits and I'm approaching the limit fast. I have several health problems contributing to different types of pain and locations. I have been on two pain medications for over 10 years. These were prescribed when I was taken by ambulance to the E.R. when my body started to shut down.(I was in bed on my back for 3 and 1/2 months unable to sit up, walk, bath myself or even use the toilet.) I almost died that day. I was admitted and given the correct dosage of pain pills needed. Over the years as my health continued to decline the dosages were increased. When Penn Highlands bought all the local hospitals and made major cuts starting with replacing doctors with less experienced ones for far less money I was taken off my pain meds. You would not believe what has happened and still going on to our local healthcare. Patients who were on pain meds have committed suicide, A young man of 23 died because the E.R. doctors thought he was looking for a fix, they did not believe he was in any pain. They sent him home only to die a few days later from MRSA. His autopsy showed no illegal drugs in his system. A multi-million lawsuit is under way. This is just one horrible unnecessary death. I have a friend who had his pain meds removed he resorted to alcohol to kill his pain. I have begun my fight taking one step at a time to get my pain meds back. This is taking a long time for me since most of my days are filled with unbearable pain. I take over the counter pain meds and the dosage far exceeds the recommended amount just to take the edge off of the pain. There is something terribly wrong when medication to help is being denied.REPORT COMMENTS

This law in Texas & just past in Oklahoma because of a college student illegally taking it & probably mixed with alcohol to get high pushed more laws that has made the patient the victim & I am just trying to survive each day in pain. This law is about the states making more money, nothing can harm a person but the choice of that person & people site it should be illegal because someone without a prescription was illegally taking it. Living in pain each day is not living, it is surviving & I don't know how much more I can take. Who has the right to choose what I put in my body, living in pain is like living in prison. Yet the Government supports Alcohol & cigarettes that kill more people than anyone & anyone can get it & it does not just destroy & kill the user but everyone around them becomes the victim. People die from over the counter medication all the time, make those all prescription also, the drug companies & government won't allow that because of the money profits. Hydrocodone is not profitable that is what is driving this law to push people on much more dangerous patented synthetic medications where drug companies make hundreds of billions of dollars. I know wonder is it quality of life vs. quantity of life for a patient who is now the victim. If the system did not make money on anesthesia during surgery, they would probably start doing surgery while the person was awake...why not, what is the difference between restricting hydrocodone?REPORT COMMENTS

I and my husband have both suffered from chronic pain for years. My husband had the right side of his body crushed in a vehicle accident in 1984. He has also had not only countless surgeries for that, but has had 2 back and 2 neck surgeries since 2002. We both suffer from degenerative disc disease. And in 1984 my husband had a blood transfusion tainted with hepatitis C, and I have it as well since we are married and had no reason for the use of condums. I have a form of spinnabiffeda from L3 to S1 with a fractured tailbone with the tip broken close to S1. I also suffer from joint facet disease. My husband has had way more damage to his body. But with the new law's governing the writing of Norco, my husbands doctor of almost 12 years cut him off cold turkey. So we had to scramble to find a new doctor for him that accepted Medicare. My primary physician finally had an opening for him. Since we both take the same types of medications, allot of doctors assume that we do this to drug seek and sell it. A person who needs these medications to function are not going to sell, or give or even tell anyone else that we even take any medications. Because you have to be very careful, because of these laws that have changed will cause people to want to get close to you, so they can steal it. Sadly this has become a fact that you can't trust friends and family. This has happened to us, and we had to buy a safe to keep them hidden. Now that these law's have come to play, we have been drastically cut back on the amount of medication that kept us able to move around and do daily activities, such as cleaning our home, keeping up our lawn. We dread even going to the store for groceries and necessary things. Now add in the fact that we both have been married almost 25 years and have had hepatitis C for a while. This gives them another reason to want to decrease our meds even more. Because of dishonest people who go from doctor to doctor to get as much as they can, because they can make money from it. And now the only muscle relaxant that works for me, I will no longer be able to get Soma. I have to change to one that is more dangerous for my liver. It's sad that we have to supplement an over the counter pain reliever with prescription pain meds. And since I am highly allergic to NDAIDS and steroids, I cannot take even one Advil without having a reaction. It's our body, and we should be able to have the right to take our chances with these medications. The suicide rate in our country is going to be so alarming, because people just would rather not live, then be in excruciating pain. I am having to raise my granddaughter. And it is so unfair to her that there are day's that I cannot take her to the park to play because it hurts too badly to stand up for more than 30 minutes. If some of these law makers had to be in the shoes of a person who suffers from chronic pain for a week or even better a couple of months, they would change their minds about theseREPORT COMMENTS

The real problem is this. ALL DRUGS SHOULD BE LEGAL. ITS NOT THE GOVERNMENTS BUSINESS. ITS CALLED PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. I dont care if you are in pain or just like the way it makes you feel. The government has ZERO right. Whenever a government inhibits the god given right of freedom and pursuit of happiness it is time to end that government. It seems to me the government tries to make life miserable and then attempts to control the substances that make that misery tolerable, for maximum profit. The government and its agencies are parasitic and need to be abolished. The people on here complaining that they are legitimate pain filled people are marginalizing those who use to treat emotional trauma just as real. Wake up and force change. Every adult has the god given right to these substances without government interference.REPORT COMMENTS

The DEA has scrutinized my doctors pain management practices. He has started reducing dosages across the board because he fears government actions to shut him down. He too has a family, but yet his patients must suffer. This is not only irresponsible, but immoral. Why does the government feel that it needs to go after legitimate doctors? Go after the people who actually divert.REPORT COMMENTS

Let me start by stating "I do not now nor have I ever had any brushes with the law for drugs etc" It's intolerable that I feel I must mention the above before explaining my medical issues with a chronic pain condition with a doctor. I have degenerative disc disease. It's not something I caused nor something I make worse by a poor lifestyle choice. I am a law abiding citizen. I suffer from pain that has now reached the point that I do not have quality of life. In the past I have had 2 spinal fusions. I've now been told additional surgeries will not help. That the pain I experience will only continue to get worse, I will have continued degeneration. The flip side of that coin is that doctors aren't allowed to treat that pain, there is now a discriminatory environment when I visit any doctor for this condition. Doctors literally shun patients with pain conditions. Where I live if you are attempting to establish care with a doctor at some practices the receptionists are told to tell patients the doctors do not treat patients with conditions related to pain. WHAT?!? What if someone in government called for a visit regarding an infection of some type, what if they were told the doctor doesn't treat people with that infection-what if they were told this same thing over and over and over. How long would laws stay as they are? Understand I genuinely pray for a way that I can be "fixed", no meds, just fixed. However, that isn't an option as I am told by multiple doctors. So answer me why at 40 years old I am forced to live the life of an invalid when there are pain medications that would assist with my struggle? Again, I continue to hope that modern medicine will find a solution, a permanent one. There is no good reason in my opinion as to why doctors are forced to treat chronic pain patients like criminals. I imagine that if many in government spent just a few days with the debilitating pain, laws would be amended. Government has no business not allowing a doctor to perform all aspects of patient care. In my opinion it's extremely lazy and cruel to make the environment one filled with punishment for doctors if they have the audacity to treat a chronic pain condition/patient. How about a solution with actual oversite not fraught with the laziness of punishing all doctors and all patients. With computers nowadays you can make a fancy little program that will provide the necessary oversite to catch and charge drug mill doctors. Give doctors the right to care for their patients. What is being done now is nothing less than cruelty to people with real medical issues that cause real permanent and chronic pain. I also have to deal with trying to find a doctor willing to treat me, which means always seeing new doctors, starting over. This costs me more money, more time, more anxiety, more disappointment and ultimately I receive no resolution. The war on drugs is sure a one sided one isn't it. I'm not in a correctional facility fREPORT COMMENTS

It's something that should be kept between a doctor and their patient. I get prescriptions from one doctor and one doctor only, why should I be punished because of others' misuse? I had a bad motorcycle accident and broke my neck, back, left shoulder, and ribs. I will have chronic pain the rest of my life. I was damaged enough that I have had 3 surgeries, and will eventually have to have another on my knee. I'm damaged enough and in pain enough to warrant surgery or steroid shots but not enough to be treated with pain medication. This is ridiculous and a travesty. Not just for me but thousands out there like me, especially veterans. Something needs to be done about this. I do feel stigmatized by a label. I was at my knee doctor yesterday. I was hurting enough to warrant a huge cortisone shot in my knee. However all they would proscribe for pain was mobic which is a horrible drug that has many complications or Napersin which is prescription allieve. I take copious amounts of alleive anyway and if it worked I wouldn't be at the doctor. I have would give everything I have not to be in pain. It affects every facet of my life. It gets so bad at times that depression sets in. I have a family to not just support financially but by being there. There are many days I come home from work and can do nothing but lay on the couch. No quality of life.REPORT COMMENTS
