We need the world to be more agressive about finding a cure for HSV-2 as well as HSV-1. People think that if you have the virus, then you are dirty or that you are promiscuous. With many people, like myself, this is not the case. And none of the few partners I have had have the virus. Mine is supposedly HSV-2, but it is on my back, arm, and chest. No clue how I could have gotten it. It started out on my back, then moved to my chest, and recently (5 years in) to my arm. It swells up and causes terrible radiating, debilitating pain. So, when people say its no big deal, they are wrong. Studies say the breakouts lessen and become extremely mild further into the infection, this is also not true for me as I am sure for some other people. I was told I could have gotten it from anywhere. Even from taking money working on the job and then scratching my arm or back after touching money. This disease is spread so many ways that aren't sexual that nobody seems to know about. We need education, but most of all, we need a cure... now.... not ten years from now. Ten years from now I may be dead from the stress it has caused or in the nut-house because it is driving me crazy trying to protect my son from getting it just from hugging me and accidentally touching my arm. Please Please Please find a cure!!!.... We so desperately need it!REPORT COMMENTS

I meet a man who knew he had herpies 2. he choose not to reveal this to me. we started dating and became intimate. yes we used codums but they were ineffective. you see it tore and now i have herpies 2 my life is ruined never again will i have a relationship. the stegma with herpies is so great that i keep my condition secret from family and work who would surely fire me the outbreaks are terrible. Lats for 10 days. it painful to use the bathroom. I can hardly walk the pain is so great the only hope is funding to find a cure. the treatments they have now are not effective. it may shorten your ob even lessen them but often they do nothing. the worse part is is knowing you have another ob but not knowing when. many people with herpies do not know they have it because they show no symptoms yet they unknowingly pass it on. Im no slut. I dont drink or party. Please i beg of u to fund this study. do you have any idea how many new borns contract herpies from their mothers? If you wont do it for us do it for them. why should they be punished? FGor that maTTER WHY SHOULD iREPORT COMMENTS

It is a fallacy to believe GHSV2 is acquired only by promiscuous individuals. Unless you and your partner reveal negative IgG HSV Type Specific blood tests, prior to sex with each other and several months following your last sexual encounter, everyone is at risk. For all those individuals who did not follow this some what impractical rule of thumb and are not infected, consider yourself very fortunate. I was in a monogamous relationship for 4 yrs and got infected. I blame the government and the AMA for my infection (in addition to myself of course) and this is why...My ex girlfriend, like most people have "STD" tests all the time which sounds great but one little problem HSV is not included in STD testing. You have to specifically ask for HSV testing and on top of that you must ensure the test is IgG and not just IgM, which often does reveal latent infection. Point is, the government must mandate that IgG HSV testing be including in every STD panel. Interesting how "they" test for bacterial infections that are generally quite easy to treat but to test for a viral infection that can destroy one's life especially when unknowingly spread...not considered important. To say there needs to be a means of preventing the spread oh herpes 100% of the time, barring abstinence, is an understatement. Herpes may not physically kill people but it can destroy lives and kill happiness and hope for all the remaining days and moments of people who are infected.
