I am very active in a local dog rescue group. We've seen so many dogs come in abused, starved and neglected. The sight of these dogs when they arrive on our door would turn your stomach. You realized that somewhere humanity was broken. We also had a dog, like Caleb, who had been sexually abused. She did survive, and she's a happy girl now. However, the internal damage done to her required putting her through multiple surgeries and it cost thousands of dollars. She will have problems with her bowels for the rest of her life. We work so hard to save these dogs, and it is heartbreaking when you see that the abuser gets no more than a slap on the wrist. Not only do the rescuers see that he just got a slap on the wrist, potential offenders see that there will be very little consequence. Please work on a Federal law that will protect the animals who cannot protect themselves. Changes need to be made on local levels as well, but there must be federal laws where our local governments will drop the ball.REPORT COMMENTS
