Ken Salazar has done more to destroy our Wild Horse & Burro herds than anybody! Putting Salazar in charge of Wild Horses was like putting Hitler in charge of the Jews! There are millions of privately owned cattle and sheep on our public range, but only aprox 30,000 Wild Horses, who were supposed to be the PRINCIPAL species in their herd management areas by a unanimous Act of Congress! Even the National Academy of Science study told the BLM that cattle and Wild Horses can graze together because they graze differently and their grazing compliments each other, and that the American People should decide the ratio of livestock vs. Wild Horses on our range, but the BLM gave 85% of the forage to the livestock instead, and has continued to round up and zero out our Wild Horse herds! We've seen videos and read minutes of a BLM meeting in which they're scheming on how to slaughter the 50,000 Wild Horses in BLM holding without the public knowing about it, even discussing plans for a secret mass grave or crematorium! There are millions of private cattle on our public range, but only aprox 30,000 Wild Horses! The People have been betrayed! Our public lands and Wild Horses are being stolen, abused, and destroyed by private Welfare Ranchers for profit! Please help the Safeguard American Food Exports Act of 2013, which will ban horse slaughter and the transport of horses for slaughter, become law. Or please issue and Executive Order to stop horse slaughter and transport of horses for slaughter, and put our Wild Horses BACK on their range! Horse meat is adulterated and not fit for human consumption, and it should not be sold for food in the US or foreign countries! And our Wild Horses are supposed to be protected!!!

Horses are companion animals, even the wild ones are curious and tend to look to us for help. They are a part of out culture, a clean and good part. They are symbols of religion to the Native Americans just as the Eagle and Wolf. We do not torture and slaughter dogs or cats, not legally. Why is it ok to do this to our equine partners?

I own 11 horses and I know that they routinely receive medications that are banned in animals for human consumption. If the FDA rules mean anything then horses are not fit to eat due to their unknown medical history which makes them an adulterated species. The public needs to be protected from this horse meat.

We must absolutely ban horse slaughter in the U.S. Horses are our companions and work partners. They are important to our American heritage and we find the whole idea of slaughtering them for human consumption abhorrent. U.S. horsemeat is unsafe for consumption because of drugs given to them during routine healthcare practices that are considered "banned substances" and unsafe for consumption. We don't need to risk the food safety in this country like Europe recently experienced and have since banned U.S. horsemeat. Our tax dollars, now sequestered, should not be going towards inspecting a foreign product with absolutely no benefits to Americans. The horrendously cruel and barbaric nature of horse slaughter should be enough of a reason to ban it because horses can't be slaughtered humanely and many are butchered fully conscious. Horse slaughter encourages irresponsible horse ownership and over breeding because it provides the perfect dumping ground for the excess horses where a few bucks can be made and then the cycle of abuse and misuse can continue. We need to ban horse slaughter so that we can implement more responsible horse ownership and breeding practices with ethical and moral insight and intent.

It is truly a sad day in the united states when politicians, rich cattlemen, and foreign investors have to debate if they should knowingly and intentionally, poison the unsuspecting people of foreign nations! I can't.. for the life of me..understand why horse slaughter has to ever be in debate at all! our politicians, big rich cattlemen, the over-breeders, and FOREIGN investors, have to debate if they should knowingly and intentionally poison thousands of unsuspecting men, women, and children, of foreign nations or?. not to poison them? really? if foreign nations want to poison their own people for a buck...then let them! we all know horse slaughter is the most horrific form of animal torture, and must be stopped! the biggest problem in this country is NO ONE is held accountable for their actions or in actions! if you own or buy a horse, then you know the expenses involved..and your obligation to care for that animal! in this day and age with thousands of people eating organic, going green, and fighting to have gmo's removed from OUR food supply... it has to make you realize....it is ONLY about the money! we need to contact foreign media outlets...and have them ask our government...why? they refuse to address this issue with us! the united states banned horse meat from our food supply and can?t be bought for human consumption due the highly toxic medicines we give all our horses. In the 1970?s the fda of the united states had banned horse meat for use in dog and cat food, it was killing, and giving cancer to the pets in this country! the E U has banned horsemeat from the U.S.A.. I wonder what will happen when they finally put 2 & 2 together and realize that they have been eating our tainted horsemeat all along. Almost 200,000 american horses have been brought to slaughterhouses through mexico and canada, yearly?.. for many years?.... and our politicians have been turning a knowing blind eye! The united states used to take great pride in setting an example for the rest of the world on compassion and humanity! I find it heartbreaking for my country, when terrorists, convicts, illegals, and pedophiles are given more bleeding heart compassion, than the elderly, poor, and animals, of this nation! So?..if it can?t be bought, eaten, or used in pet food in the u.s.a. ??? why would you want to have foreigners eat it???? May GOD help us, our horses, and all those who may unknowingly eat our horse meat! Sincerely, linda

The US is known throughout the world as bloodthirsty. Please, don't allow this to happen. New Mexico does not want tax dollars spent on a plant that won't generate tax dollars, such as the close plant in Kaufman, Texas. What a waste. The few people working there will not pay taxes. This type of inhuman treatment serves no purpose.

I don't want my tax dollars spent to subsidize an unnecessary, predatory industry who disregards the will of the American people in order to profit off of exporting tainted horsemeat to our allies overseas. Horse slaughter is NOT the image we want to have in the world.

Horse slaughter does not make sense in any way. It is inhumane, it only serves to enable overbreeding, horse meat shipped to other countries is unsafe and opens us up to lawsuits like they are seeing in Europe and this industry is subsidized by the American Taxpayer. It will cost $250,000 just to get the doors open at Valey Meats. We do not need USDA under a sequester risking the American food supply by pulling their inspectors to horse plants.Pro slaughter propaganda is just that - propaganda - unsubstantiated and misconstrued facts. And if you want to see what Horse Slaughter Plants do to a community - Google Paula Bacon, former mayor of Kaufman, Texas - she can tell you exactly what it costs a community in which horse slaughter industry is located.
