Please stop the shipping of out american horses to the slaughter houses up in Canada. The horses were here first, and then us humans came to take away their land. -

A poll in The Horse showed that 96% of horse owners use NSAIDs (such as bute, banned in food animals) for their horses. Horse meat is toxic to the consumer.REPORT COMMENTS

Now, before anyone goes off and starts pounding their keyboards telling me we NEED horse slaughter becuz there are so many unwanted horses, I want you to stop and think where those horses came from....they came from irresponsible humans, either by backyard breeding, so called 'professional' breeders and those humans who just don't want them anymore. Yes, I understand there are cases where the humans love their horses and can no longer afford to keep/care for them. That doesn't mean you send them to an auction or slaughterhouse. Is that being a responsible animal guardian? I think not. Humans are the cause of extreme abuse and pain inflicted on other humans and all types of animals. The animals rely on YOU for everything while in your care. There is NO such thing as 'humane' slaughter. Humane would be to have the horses euthanized but once you've done that, they can't be consumed by humans OR other animals for food. God did NOT give us horses to eat. There are plenty of other meat sources for those who have to eat it. Do you beat, stab, electrocute (cattle prod) or hit with boards that have nails in them, the deer, rabbits, elk, moose, bear or any other wild life you hunt? NO you don't. For MOST hunters, it's all about a clean kill shot (one; not multiples). Our horses are not even given that option. For those in other countries that want to eat horse meat, let them raise their own and leave ours alone!! Please copy/paste and/or share by whatever means you have available. Let's get the word out there that we want them to STOP THE SLAUGHTER.REPORT COMMENTS

Government needs to downsize. Americans DON't eat horses. The foreign owners were scoff-laws and inhumane and didn't pay taxes. I don't want my tax dollars supporting an industry that is both cruel, inhumane. The market will self-correct. The breeders need to be responsible. Horses are our symbol of Freedom - are WE for sale?REPORT COMMENTS

I am definitely anti horse slaughter for human consumption, but I have to ask - What is the possible good in a petition that one can sign as many times as they want? The pro-slaughter contingent is even paying signers, but, they have lots of money from the breed organizations, the cattlemen and Farm Bureau. We have only our fingers. I still say - Why should any of us waste our time with this?REPORT COMMENTS

THE OPPOSITION TO THIS BILL IS FULL OF LIES AND ERRONEOUS DATA INVENTED BY A SLAUGHTER INDUSTRY THAT BELIEVES THERE IS MORE VALUE IN A DEAD HORSE THAN A LIVE ONE. This is not true. Live horses create industry and more GNP for many years as opposed to slaughtered horses. We are treading down a slippery slope if we allow US horses who have been treated with drugs and are unsafe for human consumption to be slaughtered and fed to another country. Even the dog food industry prohibits the use of horse meat because of the contamination and health risks. DO NOT ALLOW OUR TAX DOLLARS TO BE SPENT ON USDA INSPECTORS TO OVERSEE ANOTHER COUNTRy'S FOOD SUPPLY. You have cut the USDA inspection money by $25 million for inspecting our food. Don't think for a minute that the people of this country will be in approval of spending $10 million on inspecting horse meat for China and Europe. That is the only way to start this heinous industry up again is to regulate it. WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY! Vote yes on S.1176 and stop this issue once and for all.REPORT COMMENTS
