My child's leukemia diagnosis changed our lives. While he is healthy now, 15 years later, we still wonder about the etiology of his illness. I continue to witness others in our community who are also facing similar illnesses. This law will do much to extend our knowledge of how the environment impacts our health. Science and medicine will reap the benefits because finding causation is the first step to preventing and then treating disease. Please support this very important law. In my community too, I collected the names of 41 children in my community that were not listed in the Indiana Cancer Registry because they sought treatment in Illinois and there was a 2 year lag time. This included my daughter, Emily who has since passed away. Meanwhile, a cancer cluster was developing in response to chemical emissions. When the ATSDR got involved, they could not draw any meaningful conclusions and could not include the names of children that had confirmed cases of cancer because they were not in the registry. As a result, we were told that childhood cancer rates were elevated but not at the statistically significant level. One good thing did come out of the debacle was that the chemical company moved, unfortunately to another country-France.REPORT COMMENTS
