I've had 3 children after 8 pregnancies. My 2 younger children were born healthy despite placental abruptions, which caused only 2 of my miscarriages. One of those miscarriages caused such bad hemorrhaging, that I nearly died. I also had preeclampsia with my middle child, and preterm labor with my youngest 2. Had I not been proactive about MY Own Health..... I would Not be here today. Many women insist that something feels wrong, and doctors dismiss their lack of education as a lack of real intuition as well. There needs to be standard reporting of All Maternal Deaths. Whether they set the standard as long as 6 months postpartum, or 6 weeks, there needs to be a standard time frame. Every state needs to have the mandatory reporting guidelines so the data can be efficiently collected. Every state needs to have a board or research panel, looking into causes- policies that were overlooked in prevention, as well as health related issues before, during, and after pregnancy, and complications arising during labor. Period. Without reporting, and research into the causes, how can we hope for better prevention? Better monitoring? Better health?Sep 29th, 2015Someone from Princeton, WV writes:
I'm thankful to have had an uncomplicated pregnancy and delivery as an older mother, but I know my healthcare providers were constantly monitoring for signs of impending problems. Having the big picture view that better statistics will provide is an important step towards ensuring that our healthcare professionals' efforts are truly based on "best practices," and that excellent care is standard everywhere.REPORT COMMENTS

I had a near miss and lost my son. A month prior I was having abdominal pain and went to the hospital only to be told that it was nothing and not to return unless it got worse, I started bleeding, my water broke, or I blackout! I never saw a doctor just nurses and no ultrasound! I did what I was told and a month later I started contracting went to the hospital and they could not find his heartbeat! I had a placental abruption and if I had an ultrasound when I last came in they could have saved my son and saved me a lot of blood!REPORT COMMENTS

A girl my daughter went to school with died last year during childbirth. I was shocked. I thought this didn't happen anymore. It happens a lot more than we know. Having a baby is not safe no matter what your ageREPORT COMMENTS

I am a Registered Nurse and this is unbelievably shocking! I can't believe that there is no standard protocol for pregnant women and emergencies. I recently delivered my second child and this haas proven true. It was a complicated delivery and the only interventions they had were to supply oxygen and administer IV fluids.REPORT COMMENTS

It is a shift work concept of care of women in labor and after delivery when there is not a single physician that is responsible for the entire process. There are many physicians responsible for the care of the patient and ultimately none of them are responsible for that patient,REPORT COMMENTS
