I have lived through the deaths of my 14 year old son and my 44 year old daughter 21 years apart. I cannot imagine having returned to work immeditaely and fortunately had employers who understood but more often than not that is not the case. Just like a physical ailment the devastation felt after the death of a child does not allow one to be an effective or safe employee and time away is necessary to BEGIN the healing process,Jan 22nd, 2011Someone from Oshkosh, WI signed.

I have had the unfortunate experience of carrying my own sons casket to his final resting place and I can not put in words to overwhelming feeling of devastation. I was blessed in that my employer told me to take whatever time I needed and come back when I was ready...I could not imagine being told that I needed to be in on Monday morning or I would lose my job...please give this legislation the attention it deserves and give a voice to the families that are quietly grieving the loss of a child.REPORT COMMENTS

I'm not a big fan of government edicts, but FMLA is here and not going away. So we should try to make it better. Dealing with the loss of a child is a lot harder than dealing with bringing one into the world. Been there for both. FMLA should cover the loss of a child.REPORT COMMENTS

I can't imagine anything worse than losing a child. No child should go before their parents. It's bad enough emotionally when you lose a parent and takes a while to get yourself emotionally back to some kind of normalcy and to lose a child has got to be even harder than that.REPORT COMMENTS
