As a child i had a variety of health issues, so I wasn't always able to run and play with the other children. my parents restricted my commercial television viewing, but i could watch as much PBS as I liked. Public Broadcasting was a significant part of my childhood. I learned to read and count with Sesame Street and The Electric Company, Nova introduced me to science, Cosmos showed me the profound sense of connection that exists in all things. PBS taught me music, literature, art, theatre, cooking, history, world events, and critical thinking. When my children were young, I introduced them to Sesame Street and Shining Time Station. As they got older it was NPR and Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me, and A Prairie Home Companion and BBC News. To eliminate their funding will do nothing to balance the budget, but will severely cripple the concept of non-corporate funded information.

That fact that democracy depends on it is exactly why Romney and his people want it gone. Truth is such a low priority for these guys.

When I was a small child, kindergarten had not become mandatory. In my area, it was a private luxury which my parents could not afford. So I stayed home and watched PBS. When I entered first grade, because of my PBS education, I tested in the highest group in my grade. When I became a mother, I made sure my daughter watched PBS as soon as she understood what a television was. When she entered first grade, because of her PBS education, she was tested as a gifted child. Now I am a grandmother, and my grandchildren are growing up with PBS. My 2 year old granddaughter can already recite the alphabet and count to 20 thanks to her PBS education. This free television channel has been a catalyst for success for three generations in my family. It is an invaluable asset and needs to be promoted, not unfunded.

Growing up in a tiny, insular town, I didn't have the opportunity to meet people of different ethnicities, from different cultures, who didn't dress or speak or look like anyone in my small community. Public TV-- Sesame Street in particular-- was the single most persuasive influence in my coming to realize at a very young age that those differences don't matter. It opened my mind and my heart to a much larger world, and I'd hate to think how my life might have turned out if not for that gentle example of tolerance and unity. The relatively tiny amount of Federal funds that help keep Public Television afloat is money wisely spent-- it's an investment in the belief that we can continue to evolve as a society.

If you fire Big Bird then Sponge Bob is left to educate our children and that is scary!

Sesame street helped teach me when I was a child and later my own children so many valuable lessons! Lessons about kindness, cooperation, community and of course letters and numbers. PBS is wonderful and essential for so many families! We love you Big Bird!!!

This is a huge contribution to rural America and those who don't have cable TV. It is a very small portion of the budget.

Funding for PBS is miniscule compared to compared to tax cuts for the 1 %, corporate welfare for oil companies making record profits and many other things paid for with money borrowed from China.

My son heard mitt say he would get rid if Big Bird. Then he heard Santorum say he would kill Big Bird. Then he cried. PBS has been teaching our children for decades. We as a nation gain in multiples from the little we give to subsidize PBS. And as usual, you have no plans to replace what you plan to repeal. Mitt, you have the wrong priorities and maybe if you had watched more Sesame Street, you would have better math skills. But right now, your arithmetic does not add up.

If corporate influence were to be introduced via advertisements, the integrity of PBS would be lost forever. Such a small amount of money yields a nation full of educated children and adults - what a bargain

As a single mother raising three kids I work two jobs just to break even. Every morning my 5 and 4 year old watch PBS before school. I can't afford cable but knowing they are watching the same programs I grew up I know they are stimulating their brain cells. It helps prep them for the school day. It helps making learning fun for them. It provides them with a limitless imagination, building confidence and establishing character. PBS is essential to our nation providing this service to hard working parents such as myself who cant afford to provide luxuries in there home, such as cable and Internet. I am 1000000% against the cancelation of PBS you guys ROCK!!!!!! #teamobama

My daughter is 31 years old. I think one of the reasons she did so well in school and in later life, is from what she learned on Sesame Street and Mr Rodgers. Cutting funding, which isn?t all that much compared to what we spend on other things, is not going to make a difference to the deficit, but will make a huge difference in our children?s education.

Public television and radio is the last hope we have for getting information that is not tainted by corporate influence. Without this we are doomed to become a society and government not by the people, for the people, but by the corporation, for the corporation.
