Nova ScienceNOW...Cosmos: A Space-Time Odyssey...we need these!Nov 2nd, 2012Someone from Alexandria, VA writes:
As a first generation immigrant child, I learned about American culture and language though PBS. While my blue collar immigrant parents worked 12 - 15 hour days I learned a great deal through PBS. Do not take away this wonderful program. Looking back, I gained a great deal of knowledge and felt the people/characters were my real friends. It would be a sad day in America when something so simple yet powerful will be stripped from it's children.REPORT COMMENTS

In a state like South Dakota, with a large area and small population, public broadcasting provides a vital link to the rest of the nation and the world. So many people in our state, particularly in the more isolated communities, would never get to see a Broadway musical, an opera or a Shakespeare play if not for public television. It also allows us to examine our own contentious past in an objective way in order to foster better understanding. Speaking for myself, I learned to read before I entered kindergarten, in part from watching PBS; today I am an MA in literature.REPORT COMMENTS

I grew up with PBS and my daughter is growing up with it. Why do they want to take away everything and charge a fee for it when they bring it back as something else?REPORT COMMENTS

I would have so much less understanding of current events, culture, and what's new in science without public broadcasting. It is more trustworthy and reports in greater depth on a variety of topics than other outlets combined.REPORT COMMENTS

My children grew up in a household without cable and little "rabbit ears" on the back on the television. It may have been snowy, but they watched, learned and sang along before they even entered into school. My family now has cable and the only advantage we see from it is more PBS channels coming in clear. If you think taking away public television and public radio will help fix our debt and isn't really a necessity.... maybe you should sit, watch and be educated.REPORT COMMENTS
