DST is not only a nuisance, but it's also bad for our physiology. Our bodies have natural clocks and by shifting the time, you force the body to change. This leads to mental and physical degradation while the body attempts to adjust to the new schedule. You can see evidence in the rise of stress induced heart problems and vehicle accidents during this time. You can also look at worker performance and how it is diminished. DST has no positive impacts for the general populace. It had a purpose during World War 1, but it no longer serves this purpose. The DST as we know it today is more driven by corporate retailers, and they should not be in charge of our lives. If they want people to enjoy more time outside, they should lobby for shorter work weeks as opposed to changing the time.REPORT COMMENTS

The sole original purpose of Daylight-Saving Time was energy conservation for the war effort a hundred years ago. That purpose has been rendered completely obsolete now. We now use LED and fluorescent light they didn't have back then, and we now use air conditioning they didn't have back then, and those two changes alone now mean that it is actually MORE costly to go on DST -- this was proven when Indiana switched to it. Why should Congress force everyone to waste more energy?! And the one thing everyone agrees on is this: Just the switching back and forth part is both unhealthy and dangerous -- it interferes with how we are supposed to be able to adapt slowly to the seasonal change. The idea that DST "creates" more daylight for shopping and recreation is a myth created by greedy industries (mostly golf and barbecue). Here's the truth: Extra daylight for those summer activities is already caused naturally by the change of the season -- but in a naturally gradual manner that does not cause accidents and sleep deprivation. The same is true in the winter -- if we kept Standard Time all year, the shorter days would happen gradually and we wouldn't have the spike in depression caused by it getting dark suddenly. And remember, on year-round Standard time we keep the lighter mornings in winter which kids need for going to school safely. Suppose the whole country had already been on Standard Time year-round for decades now. Can you imagine the public reaction if a few industries were asking the government to force millions of people to wake up an hour earlier than they need to all year long just because these businesses believed they might make a bit more money? Even when it meant that in the winter, kids would have to wait for the morning school bus in the dead of night, plus all our energy costs would increase? How would Daylight Saving Time sound then? This is why the parts of the USA who don’t switch back and forth keep Standard Time year-round. The last guy who tried to make Arizona adopt DST actually got death threats. America should keep Standard Time year-round. Standard Time has a proven track record for serving everyone in Arizona and Hawaii and all those territories just fine. None of their "summer afternoon industries" are hurting for it; they get to watch their 4th of July fireworks at 8pm instead of 9pm; they get a break from the summer heat an hour sooner; and their kids get to wait for the school bus in the daylight on winter mornings. We ALL want that! Please change the federal law and make year-round Standard Time permanent for the whole country.REPORT COMMENTS
