My family was devastated in March 2012 when we moved to a new home and our dog, King, was taken from us due to BSL in our area. We did not even know BLS existed before the move and within two days at our new home, our household and lives were ripped apart due to this law. Neighbors had called the animal control due to my older dog, Precious, barking twice to come back inside thus leading to King's removal from our home. My sweet boy King did not do anything to deserve being taken from his home and treated the way he was; arrested, imprisoned, sadated, skin burned from branding, and being rehomed to a rescue within a days time. Before all of this he was a loved, treasured member of my family. He helped my husband with his anxiety and depression. He taught my young son responsibility, compassion, and love as well as being a nightly sleeping pal to a baby boy afraid of the dark. This "Pit Bull" was one of my children. He was my family. He meant the world to me. Due to BLS, I will never be the same. My family has struggled and dealt with so much emotional stress due to this. Almost a year later and my child still does not sleep in his own room at night, my husband still has higher anxiety, and I still cry at the thought of King not being with us. No family member, two legged or four, should have to endure this type of pain. I wish I could attach pictures to this comment for better effect but I know that no one will understand the pain BLS causes until experiencing it personally. I am 100% behind Owner Specific Legislation, requiring registration and yearly checks of ALL animals within a household. I believe this will cut back on animal abuse, neglect, and will deter unresponsible pet owners from having pets they cannot or will not take care of. Breed Specific Legislation punishes responsible pet owners as well as well behaved pets.REPORT COMMENTS
