Federal laws need to be changed for the maximum minimum laws. Inmates with no violent crimes and are in their for weed charges should not have to serve a life sentence. My son got life for a weed conspiracy charge n has no violent history I ask you to look into this and maybe make some changes thank youNov 21st, 2013Someone from Hidalgo, TX signed.

Family time is so important in the rehabilitation process. These men and women are already alienated from there loved ones and family. More often times marriages end in divorce for those incarcerated. Many of the state prisons already offer these special visits, but yet the federal system prohibits this. I would love to just be able to hold my husbands hand without fear of loosing our visiting privileges. We long to see our loved ones. Yet it is so difficult because we cant touch them other than the kiss when we get there, and again when we leave. This is so painful on all involved. Please seriously consider the positives of allowing such privileges. It would make the entire system more safer for all involved. Theres not a doubt in my mind these men and women would present nothing but exceptional behavior for the opportunity for a special visit. As it stands what do these men and woman have to look forward to? NOTHING if your in the feds, as they can't even get parole!REPORT COMMENTS

Our inmates will be better off and have a greater chance at succeeding after release if they can stay connected to their families. I am signing this because my son has been in prison since the age of 17 and we've already had a suicide attempt. Punishment does not work without rehabilitation!REPORT COMMENTS

I get this privilege and it has become a very important part of our lives. Most of the families of incarcerated loved ones who live in a state that have family visits has long-since known how this important tool bonds the prisoner to their family and community. It is an important part of the rehabilitation of offenders. As research has shown, a strong community support system is a vital element in the successful transition of offenders from incarceration back into the community. Arguably, the most important correctional tool to assist offenders in maintaining stable family relations is a visitation program that allows for meaningful interaction with the significant persons in their lives. Visitation privileges have been linked to increased positive behavioral adjustment while incarcerated and lower recidivism rates upon release.REPORT COMMENTS
