Too far often people get away with acts of animal cruelty because they know they can get away with it. Most likely they were conditioned thru childhood that it was okay; therefore yes the government has to step in to prohibit, deter and punish those who continue to inflict serious pain and brutality toward animals who have really done nothing wrong, except just to exist.May 17th, 2011Someone from Saint Louis, MO signed.

Humans have central nervous system and complex brains. If they can provide a proxy to behavioral drugs then they also suffer in the same ways we do. Please defend their rights.REPORT COMMENTS

The 21st century, and were still having this debat is just wrong. Until the punishment exceeds the abuse, nothing will ever change. I'll offer my assistance in handing out the punishment, I guarantee that won't hurt anymore animals.REPORT COMMENTS

It's time for Humans to find their Moral Backbone and realize that Animals feel pain and abuse as much as People. Stop and ask yourself what you are doing hurting something that is helpless.REPORT COMMENTS

I am sick to death of animal abusers and would like to have what they did to the animal done to them. So I guess the best we can do is put them behind bars for a long time and fine them thousands of dollars for each count of abuse. With the fines to be used to help abused animals.REPORT COMMENTS

Do we put them in a lesser position because they cannot speak? They still bleed, fear, tremble -- love, just as any living being can.REPORT COMMENTS

The laws overseeing puppy mills need to be strengthened and enforced as well. Overbreeding is cruel to the mother, harmful to the pups and means more homeless dogs in shelters.REPORT COMMENTS

It is important, morally, that we realize that ALL life is here from God and have an inherent right to life. Animals weren't put here as intangible items or property. They are living, sentient beings that we exploit, torture, maim and murder in the name of greed, science, business, vanity and outright cruelty and sociopathic behavior. It's just wrong in every way!!!!!!!!!!! Killing an animal for no good reason should be murder. It has to stop!! There needs to be far larger penalties, fines and sentences for animal cruelty!!! You can tell a lot about a society by the way they treat animals. When you look at ours as a whole, and the way we treat animals, any wonder why we are where we are today?REPORT COMMENTS
