This law is reprehensible and needs to be changed immediately. I can't imagine returning to work the day after my husband's funeral under any circumstances much less one of suicide. It is just plain cruel. -

As a Hospice Social Worker and Bereavement Counselor, I have seen the need for this legislative change many times, and I strongly support the request that Bereavement Leave be extended and included in the FMLA for members of one's immediate family. In the end, employers will also benefit, as they will have workers with better mental health who can therefore be more productive.REPORT COMMENTS

There is no timeline to bereavement and there is a lot of things that need to be done to be able to survive after a loved one's loss, especially when the loved one commits suicide and there is no life insurance and you have two kids to feed, house and clothe!
