As a Suicide Widow myself, I can not imagine going back to work after 3 days, I could barley function at 3months. Shame on those Employers for not allowing the grieving spouse to take the time to grieve and take care of all the paperwork, and get the help they need as well for themselves and children. -

To grieve takes time. How can you deal with a loss of a spouses life thats also a loss of part of your life........if you have surgery you take about 6 wks or longer....why is there no consideration for death ?REPORT COMMENTS

A death in the family, whether that be a child, spouse, parent, sibling, grandparent, or partner should qualify under the FMLA. Suppose you were raised by grandparents as many children are today, wouldn't that loss be potentially devastating? FMLA must include all family members.REPORT COMMENTS

I think it is a crime the way workers are treated! Not giving people time to grieve is maybe the worst crime! Whatever happened to compassion?REPORT COMMENTS

As a widow, I can't even imagine having to return to work in 3 days after the death of my husband. Not only do you need time to plan a funeral, but you need time to grieve, take care of the kids that just lost their father, and try to figure out how your world can ever go on after such a loss!! There is no way 3 days is enough time before returning to work! 3 weeks doesn't even cut it! FMLA needs to include time off due to the death of a spouse!!REPORT COMMENTS

NO spouse can even begin to get over the shock, much-less take care of business in this small amount of time for bereavement!!! PLEASE...things became worse after having to go back 5 days after my husband's death...PLUS, we aren't be given a fair chance to have private time, nor, is it fair to our employers to have an emotional person who is grieving at work!!! :(REPORT COMMENTS

I lost my wife to ALS in November 2009. Caring for her over the months leading up to her death was hard. Grieving her death was an order of magnitude more difficult.REPORT COMMENTS
