Inmates that have committed a non violent crime such as breaking and entering should be released early. They should not be put in prison for 10 years. The court system is doing what they want and not doing what is good and right. It would help the overcrowding and the inmates can live a normal life. Do they not release that one day these inmates might be their neighbor? Its time to release the non-violent offenders.REPORT COMMENTS

My 19 year old son struggled with the sudden death of my mother and was introduced to drugs. As a diabetic his mind and body become toxic and incapacitated to make smart choices. At the age of 20, my son was given a mandatory minimum federal drug sentence of 20 years. Rehabilitation more than prison time is needed. Drugs tear apart families.REPORT COMMENTS

65% should be adequate. Most drug offenders need to be in treatment centers. Long term prison sentences causes an adverse affect. There is a epidemic in our country going on with heroin. A lot of the time the person became addicted from pain medicines that were prescribed from a doctor. There is an element in the meds that literally change the brains receptors. Families are being ripped apart from the addiction with loved ones turning to crime or overdosing. I pray that America starts becoming more proactive in treating the problem and realizing that these are mother's and father's, brother's and sister's, our children. Asking for a reduction to 65% isn't, for me, trying to voice that there should not be a punishment for the action but plead that we start fighting the actual problem.REPORT COMMENTS

Structured senting is such an unfair law. Inmates with drug or achocol problems need to be sentenced to drug treatment not long prison sentences. They should be helped as much as possible because they are sick human beings. Thanks judy cline- statesville,n.c.REPORT COMMENTS

We all make mistakes, some get caught, some don't. But non-violent, 1st offenders should not have their, and lots of times their families, lives ruined due to a mistake. 65% is plenty of time for them to know they never want to go back to prison. My son's in AZ the most God awful system in the US and AZ has repeat, repeat, and repeat some more offenders because they don't even try to help rehabilitate...they want them to return that's how AZ makes their money.REPORT COMMENTS

The federal sentencing reform act of 1984 needs to be repealed immediately. The sentences are extreme, unfair, biased and extremely outdated. The U.S. prison system has not helped, but has destroyed families in it's wake. The ENTIRE system needs to be overhauled and new laws need to be enacted by level headed, non-racist law-makers from every walk of life. It's a travesty that the U.S. places more emphasis and spends more money building prisons and then using prisoners' loved ones to make money for big corporations than they spend on actually building schools and placing more emphasis on education. The definition of insanity is repeating the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. By this definition, the U.S. prison system is INSANE. New laws need to be enacted and changed now! Taxpayers are footing the bill for this utter and complete FAILURE!REPORT COMMENTS

Give hope to inmates and families, let the process of healing begin. Most non-violent offenders are well aware of the tragic mistakes they have made - these are good people who have made horrible choices - these are people who want nothing more than to be reunited with their children and families and who KNOW they never want to be put in the same position again - who KNOW that if given the chance they would prove to be exemplary, productive citizens. Just give them a chance - and give us a chance to be reunited with our loved ones once again.REPORT COMMENTS

My fiance' has a 15 yr. sentence for drug possession of sales. He's already served 5 yrs. His name is Quentel Reed inmate 17257-111. He's currently at Lompoc Federal Correctional Institution 3600 Guard Rd. Lompoc, Ca.93436 if there's a way that his sentence could be reduced..I'm currently raising his 14 yr. Old son because his mother is struggling due to his behavior. In which I BELEIVE is due to the fact of his dad being incarcerated. His dad has always been in his life. He also has a13 yr. Old daughter who's whole demeanor has changed as well. I understand the nature of his crime however I feel as if the punishment is a bit harsh. He's always been a stand up father to his childern. If there's any one who's compassionate with regards to a father being away from their children for 15 yrs. Now would be the time to display it. We're willing to comply with all requirements within the law upon his release.Thank you..Sheila Johnson (510) 472-6412REPORT COMMENTS

When murders get away with only a few years and a non-violent offender gets 20 years there is something wrong with our judicial system. At least if it went to 65% that will give the majority of offenders the incentive to do right when they get out.REPORT COMMENTS

I believe that federal inmates with non-violent crimes should serve 65% of their time instead of 85%. I've known someone to get life for a non-violent crime (drugs) and my sister got murdered and her killer only got 20 yrs. Something is wrong with that picture... I think muders, rapers, molesters, etc and other violent crimes should serve 100% of their time.. Please help the, inmates with non violent crimes. Some of them are really great people and helped alot of their communities, they just got caught up the way.REPORT COMMENTS
