This data is useful for policy, but it's also useful for research relevant to policy. Over the past several years a few undergraduate students at the University of Northern Iowa have used this data to conduct research which has been presented at national conferences and in some cases at the Iowa State Capitol. The data collected goes back a long time and provides data on variables not available or not easily found elsewhere. I fear removal of funding for the ACS will lead to further cuts for the census including cuts to the economic census which is an important source of data for estimating real gross domestic product. The House apparently voted to eliminate funding because of privacy concerns rather than because of economic reasons.May 21st, 2012Someone from Charlottesville, VA signed.

As a graduate student in Urban & Environmental Planning, I cannot imagine undertaking meaningful analysis without the use of ACS data. By eliminating the survey, you will severely threaten the ability of local governments, non-profits, and small businesses to carry out the most basic of analysis. This has the potential to undercut economic growth in more ways than you or your aides could probably imagine.REPORT COMMENTS

For those of you who use demographic information for any of your work or studies, the ACS is extremely important. Once again, shortsighted representatives in D.C. have decided to cut something that saves more money and creates more value than its public cost. From fellow planners to people in healthcare, domestic policy, public spending, social sciences and advertising, ACS information is fundamental to making accurate decisions on where to concentrate funds and efforts. Please help congress see something useful as more than price tag on the chopping block!REPORT COMMENTS

The census collects very important data on Americans in communities throughout the country. Data of this kind, on this scale that is accessable to all Americans does not exist elsewhere.REPORT COMMENTS

Please continue to support funding for the ACS as it is currently administered. The information collected through the ACS gives decision-makers and the public access to information that allows them to make informed decisions for transportation, schools, housing, economic and community development, and others. It sheds light on vital equity issues that may otherwise not be addressed.REPORT COMMENTS
