Horse racing is one of the most horrific industries aside from rodeos in the history of America. The majestic horses are treated like garbage, something that you can just toss in the trash when their running days are over They are broke to ride as yearlings (one-year-old). Horses should NEVER be ridden or bear any weight on their backs until they are at least a late 2-year-old or older. Anyone outside of Thoroughbred racing and the Quarter horse industry wouldn't break a horse to ride until they are four! Their knees haven't closed up yet. They are still babies! One of the main reasons for so many breakdowns on the tracks. Horses are patched up and sent back out and raced until they cannot place in the money anymore. Some race into their teens. Greedy owners are trying to squeeze every dollar they can out of them. Horses that are not fast enough or get injured are sent off to slaughter auctions. Kill buyers snatch them up and ship them to slaughter. Some breeders have contracts with these kill buyers. They sell their horses directly to the kill buyer with the agreement that they do not sell them to a third party other than the slaughter plant. Why? Because all racing Thoroughbreds have a tattoo under their top lip, and it can be traced back to the owner. They don't want anyone knowing they are shipping horses to slaughter. Perfectly good horses, nothing wrong with them. Most are not injured, and some just need some layup time to heal. Some tracks have put rules into place that anyone caught selling horses to slaughter at the track will be barred. But they still do. It happens every day. There are kill buyers that sell some of them online [Facebook] for a high price to make more money. Search Kill Pens on Facebook, Kaufman Kill Pen, Stanley Bros horses, Bastrop Kill Pens, Bowie Auction horses, etc. To find many of them. They sell them to those trying to save them from shipping to slaughter. But thousands of others are shipped directly without ever getting a second chance. Overbreeding is a serious problem. The Thoroughbred, Standardbred, and Quarter Horse industries breed for quantity, not quality. The same is for racing. Only the very top breed for quality, but they too dump horses like trash. Yes, it is true. Kentucky Derby winners have even been slaughtered for meat! Like Ferdinand and Exceller, stakes winners that are horses who have won millions of dollars for their owners are dumped like trash, because they cannot stay in the money any longer. There is a horse that I want to adopt when he is retired. I have been following this one horse for years. He is now almost nine years old and still racing in lower claiming races. He is dropping in ranks, and that shows that he is just running for greed. He just happened to win the race before last and in the winner's circle, not one person patted him to say a good job. Not one! They don't care! None of them care, it is all a show. Horse racing is a vicious cycle. Most will never see the backsideREPORT COMMENTS
