I'm a Wilmington native, via paternal side, who retired here after 35 years at E.Mich.U. Don't confuse the political science discipline with political talk. The behavioral and empirical subdisciplines are legitimate science and deserve continued support by, and membership in, NSF. -

And I would like to add that NSF funding was crucial in a recent research project on governance and democracy in America. Don't we want to support research that reaches out to every American to increase participation in government in our democracy?REPORT COMMENTS

Our elected officials would be more effective if they absorbed political scientists' insights into their own incentives and the dynamics of their interaction with allies and opposition.REPORT COMMENTS

Studying and researching political systems informs US foreign policy and helps to also inform newly democratizing countries. Political Science is the first discipline that falls by the wayside in undemocratic regimes. This happened in both Spain and Argentina, which are two countries I was awarded a Fulbright. Even though regime transition occurred years ago, these countries still have not fully re-built their political science departments and it is a real problem. Let us not fall victim to the same.REPORT COMMENTS
