A horrible idea: How many times would the same monies be taxed!? I think the idea of ONLY taxing items purchased (except food) would have more than enough "revenue" for the country & states. This would be more equitable.

Very simply we must demand that our representatives have a real grasp of the Law of the Land...the Constitution. We truly need to start over...we are so far removed from the only thing that makes us free people, the Constitution. NO DOUBLE, TRIPLE, QUADRUPLE, ETC. TAXATION and definitely no taxation levied by elitists or aristocrats or oligarchics. Oh! and all citizens stop saying and thinking "democracy"...we are a REPUBLIC and let's use the term. WORDS HAVE MEANING...WORDS HAVE POWER...Let's use them correctly and not allow domination of conversation to be dictated by the misuse of words and redefining of meanings.

I suppose it wouldn't be so bad if I could vote myself a 3% wage increase when my pockets get empty and then not require me to partake in the new helth plan, wish I could make my own rules.

This is a potential financial disaster for several reasons! 1) Most companies are now requiring direct deposit for payroll. Not only does it remove 2% off the top (once by employer, once by bank receiving the deposit, it will continue to deduct 1% every time the money is transferred, as well as 1% when the money is spent. 2) Retailers are going to be charged 1% when they deposit the money, 1% with each transfer, and 1% when they spend it. Not being stupid, they will raise prices 3% just to cover this cost. 3) Worse for consumers is the fact that 1% is charged to the seller and the purchaser AT EVERY INTERMEDIATE STEP. Just think: raw materials (2%), component parts (2%), subassemblies (2%), finished goods to wholesalers (2%), and another 1% to retailers. That could mean costs increases of 5-11% for goods BEFORE the consumer enters into the picture. Our purchasing power with current income would be severly curtailed. Our competitive stance would plummet even more in international markets with such a large jump in non-value-adding costs! Remember. the 1% hits apply to the whole amount, not just the fraction of value added at each level. 4) The bill offers low-income people a "break" by deducting 1% of adjusted gross income from their tax liability. However, given that they are losing 3% to start with (from employer, into bank, out of bank), that 2% reduction does not sound too good. 5) As others have pointed out, there is no guarantee that income taxes will be eliminated or when that would occur. They will be considered at some point, but that is not binding on results. 6) Once Congress creates this fiasco, they can change the percentage at will. Social Security started out at a much lower percentage (I believe it was around 3-4% on a very limited base); today it charges both the taxpayer and the employer over 6.5% (each) on an ever-increasing base. Once the camel's nose is in the tent, it is only a matter of time until the whole camel is in the tent. In summary, this is a BAD IDEA and needs to be stopped ASAP.

I don't believe anyone in Congress would knowingly vote for this bill to pass. It's just taking more money from those who are trying to save some.
