These programs are NOT entitlements and I wish Congress and the Media would STOP referring to them, they are programs that I have PAID earned income into for many, many years in order to BENEFIT from that investment in the future. HANDS OFF. There is plenty of investment available if it is managed correctly, responsibly and for the intended outcome of the investment, in the context of the overall federal budget. HANDS OFF MY $ AND BENEFITS.REPORT COMMENTS

Both of these programs should be strengthened not diminished. Congress should do their jobs and make adjustment -- not kill these programs and certainly not turn them over to corporations. The US needs a social safety net.REPORT COMMENTS

I've paid social security all my life, and it's what I'll count on after I retire. It's not yours, you're not entitled to it and it does not contribute to the deficit. If you've "borrowed" against this, you've stolen from the people who own it. Pay it back and stop stealing from We the People. I'd like to finally see a government of the United States of America actually work to give a care about the people that it's sworn to protect.REPORT COMMENTS

If you think you can't get enough young, healthy people to sign up for private insurance under ACA to keep premiums stable, just imagine what is going to happen to premiums when you dump 10's of millions of older, less healthy people onto the private insurance carriers. This is the stupidest idea about healthcare yet. And that's saying quite a lot in America.REPORT COMMENTS

If Seniors and low income families can't cover medical costs or are bankrupt by them, the costs are passed directly to their families who usually can't afford them either. If they have no family ot other support they die or live in pain. Republicans are using an authoritarian double - speak title, "Path to Prosperity", to describe this vicious and cruel program. There is NO prosperity in this.REPORT COMMENTS

Social Security is self-financed, which means no general fund financing, so there's no reason to change what works except raising, or eliminating the cap on income, so the wealthy pay more; this will enable benefits to be expanded, so retired, and disabled recipients don't live in pain. Medicare should be expanded for everyone, so we have universal single payer healthcare instead of private healthcare tied to employment, which is unworkable. Employers refuse to hire full time, so they can avoid paying employees benefits like healthcare. This forces many to work two and three part-time jobs either without health insurance, or paying for it. It's a disgrace how workers are forced to accept wages that they can't possibly live on, which causes strife, credit card indebtedness, and miserable lives while the superrich get all the breaks taxwise including lower rates, tax havens, loopholes, and subsidies a/k/a Corporate Welfare. It's disgraceful! The multinationals, and billionaires are freeloaders. They need to pay up, so Middle Class consumers can buy their goods.REPORT COMMENTS

nyone who wants to mess with Social Security should just make one visit to a nursing home where without their checks, these poor Seniors would be out on the streets and homeless. Is this really the America we want? PLEASE LEAVE IT ALONE, just remove the ceiling on earnings that are taxed and there will be no problem in keeping this solvent. Privatization would be the death of this program!!! How many of the wealthy who do not need this income ever turn it down? NOT VERY MANY!!!REPORT COMMENTS

Congress and the Senate have given themselves pay raises, taken more vacations and time off than any other job in this country, been less productive then any other in history. It is time for restructuring the benefits of the congress and senate, cut life time benefits after only 2 terms and make it 20 years like the rest of the country and end the life time health insurance. This needs to be evaluated and brought in line with other jobs. Also productivity needs to be evaluated by an independent over sight committee. They spend less time in session then a teacher in class and get paid 3 - 4 x the salary for virtually no accomplishments in the past 8 years then obstruction. Give back our social security money and your salaries.REPORT COMMENTS
