I am an Army Judge Advocate, but I am writing this solely in my personal capacity. I had the good fortune of having Colonel Stahlman as an instructor at our Army JAG School in Charlottesville, VA. I was very impressed with everything about him. His intelligence was obvious to anyone in his class, yet he never used it to make any students feel inferior or uncomfortable. He was the model of our profession. He was confident without a hint of arrogance. He was one of those rare people who made me think to myself - "I'd really like to be more like this guy." Now that I have a son, I can say that he was the type of person I would want my son to grow up to be. That is not an emotional exaggeration. I would have said that well before July 2008. I know of absolutely no facts surrounding the July 31, 2008 incident. However, this whole situation has never made sense to me. It bothers me and I think about it often. It always seemed to me like something was missing. Since I have no knowledge of the facts of this case whatsoever, I just figured that there was something that I was missing and that surely there was a full investigation that determined what happened with a reasonable degree of certainty. Because of my unease with this case being ruled a suicide, I kept finding myself Googling Colonel Stahlman's name to see if something had changed. If something was amiss, I figured that it would be raised by his family. Later, when I saw that it was being pursued by his wife and family/supporters, I went right back to the same feeling that I had all along - something just doesn't make sense about this case. I consider myself just about the farthest person from a "conspiracy theorist" that you could imagine. That is why I find this all the more distressing. I wish I had infomation that could help Colonel Stahlman's family. I also wish I would have made these comments earlier. My heart aches for Colonel Stahlman's family. I wish I knew your husband/father better. I know I would have been much better off for the experience. Unfortunately, I only knew him from his classes and speaking with him in the hallways. I apologize for not writing sooner than today. From the bottom of my heart, I hope that you find the answers that you so clearly deserve. I am very grateful for Colonel Stahlman and his family for their service to our country.REPORT COMMENTS

Captain USN (Ret) Immediate action by The SC Congressional Delegation in spearheading a forensic investigation, is the very least Colonel Stahlman's family should expect , in recognition of the Colonel's honorable and faithful service to the Corps and the NationREPORT COMMENTS

Colonel Stahlman and his family deserve a proper investigation based on all available evidence. Justice is warranted for this honorable man who devoted his entire life to serving his country and Marine Corps.REPORT COMMENTS
