also, the interest rates: I can get a car loan for less than what I co-signed on my children's loans. This is pure, mean spirited GREED.Feb 8th, 2015Someone from Hudson, NY signed.

Parents and grandparents are being strong armed into co signing for student loans jeopardizing their retirements and financial security. This is a disgusting practice and needs to be stopped. Interest rates on student loans should be low enough to help students get an education without crippling them and their families for a lifetime just so predatory lenders and the Dept. Of Education can drive students into default to make blood money off students by driving them into default. These students are simply trying to make a better life for themselves. Help them. By stripping basic consumer protections from student loans and profiting from driving students and families into predatory debt, you are creating the next economic crash. This bubble will soon burst too. But of course it will be the predators that get the bailouts, not the victims, the students and their families. Shame on you for abusing our children for your own monetary gain. The middle class are the ones that are the most abused. Shameful.REPORT COMMENTS

Student debt is negatively affecting the life of myself & my daughter. Due to the bad economy related to the recession, our student loans ended up growing to be larger than they were when we took them out & we have no hope of ever paying them offREPORT COMMENTS

I am 66. I still have student debt, acquired to enhance my employability before the economy tanked in 2008. That has turned out to be a bitter disappointment. I no longer own a home or a car, and I make my loan payments out of Social Security and part-time employment. When I can no longer work at all, I imagine the lenders will come after my Social Security and I will die homeless, on the street. Will society really be better off?REPORT COMMENTS
