How is it that these schools, can right off their debt by filing bankruptcy? Yet students cannot, when these schools target low income people talk them into these loans faster than you realize whats happening. within a month of starting, they pull you out of class to harass you about paying them, then they can file bankruptcy, as their pockets grow, and we barely make it by at the poverty line, and then your income tax return gets taken, because you owe these big outrageous loans, and the interest swallows you. It is no win no win situation.REPORT COMMENTS

The practice of usury is so pervasive in the private student loan industry it is ridiculous. It turns non-profit educaiton into for-profit education. I truly believe that many of the loans that were issued prior to the Great Recession WERE predatory lending. Who would issue a mortgage-sized loan to an 18 year old without a job, even WITH a cosigner? Private student loans need some serious reform. I am glad that they are a dying breed but the people who have them from before the Great Recession still need help!REPORT COMMENTS

we do not have the usual protection that is afforded borrowers from a bank, lending association, etc. The only reason why is because the big corporate student loan companies have lots of money for PAC's and lobbyists for their cause. Bottom line. MONEY TALKS and that is wrong.REPORT COMMENTS
