I am no longer able to work due to this terrible disease!!! Please recognize Gastroparesis as a disability so that I my husband will no longer have to carry the financial burden alone and so that my family will no longer struggle!Jan 20th, 2015Someone from Silver Springs, FL writes:
Gastroparesis has robbed me of my life! I used to be able to be active member of society. Now I struggle to navigate through the day. Live in constant pain and nausea. With each passing month, I am loosing the battle. There is not enough medical knowledge and limited treatment options. Please help us be recognized as the disabled people we have become.REPORT COMMENTS

I have been living with this for nine (9) years now, can no longer work, can not enjoy life and do not have the energy it takes to get a bath each day. I have experienced severe depression and have attempted suicide. I am tired of seeing people die because of a lack of empathy from a medical profession that is either too busy, too disinterested, too lazy to educate themselves or lacks the empathy to treat their patients with the care and understanding needed in this situation. I am tired of reading about serious surgeries that may or may not be necessary, but are being done because there is no protocol in place for people with Gastroparesis. I am also tired people ending up with no insurance, no home and no source of financial aid because they can no longer work: and, because of all of the money spent on medications and treatments that are not working. We are all over the board. We need help and we need it now. People are dying unnecessarily. Thank you!REPORT COMMENTS

Not only should this be recognized by the SSA it should also be added to the Compassionate Allowance list of diseases for fast tracking the approval. This is a horrible disease that is debilitating far beyond the point of being able to work no matter your job.REPORT COMMENTS

Please help! There are too many people suffering with GP and struggling to make it day to day. Think back to the last time you suffered with the dreaded stomach flu. Those with GP feel just like that, but day in and day out, with no hopes of getting well in a few days.REPORT COMMENTS

i have suffered with this illness for nearly 12 years. I have lost many jobs because of missing days due to illness. I can be vomiting and nauseous for two weeks at a time. I have missed the birth of a grandchild because I was ill. My life has changed dramatically. Too many people aren't getting good care because there are too many doctors that have little knowledge of this illness and can't give patients adequate care which in turn causes their poor health to get much worse than it should have been. We need funding for research too. This affects far too many of us, 5 million worldwide!REPORT COMMENTS

Gastroparesis has flipped my world upside down. The fact that there is no research being done is nothing but a slap in the face to those who suffer. I am truly grateful for my GP support group. I would be lost without them. Because I can't seem to find a medical professional who is knowledgeable and or compassionate when it comes to dealing with Gastroparesis. It impacts me 24/7. It has taken the best of me. Stealing precious time away from the ones I love. I pray that this petition gives you an idea of how serious this issue is. And that there needs to be more emphasis on awareness for the disease. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. God bless those who suffer, and God bless their family and friends. I'm never giving up hope for a cure. Thank you, CherylREPORT COMMENTS

Please everyone we need this!! GP is such a disabling condition. Please give us the help we need and deserve. Many of us are on feeding tubes, can't tolerate any food, or if we do it is so little that we can eat. Pain, nausea, vomiting, bloating, it is all part of a daily life of someone who has GP.REPORT COMMENTS

Having lived with this disease along with other conditions directly linked to motility- it is like being starved and tortured without reason! And at the same time not having a national call for research and protocol, treatment, with cure as the goal! It is tragic to feel envious of other diseases simply because they are recognized and understood!REPORT COMMENTS

I have suffered from Gastroparesis for 5 years, I have a feeding tube that bypasses my stomach and also have a gastric neurostimulator implanted in my stomach. I have been unable to work since 2012 and I know live a mostly home bound lifestyle because I am sick so often. This disease robs you of a life and My story is only one of tue examples of how important it is to recognize this as a disability. More research and awareness and resources to help cope with this life changing illness and to help is suffering from starving to death!REPORT COMMENTS

I have Gastroparesis, Colon Inertia, and quite a few other illnesses. No one knows why this has happened to me, but I do know that it has completely changed my life. I was a hard working, wife, and mother, giving 100% at my career, and my home. I'm 40 years old, and my life is a nightmare, I don't call it living just existing. I would give anything to have my working life back, but because of Gastroparesis, I have been robbed of any quality of life. Now that I have lost my career of eight years, my family has had to drop our health insurance, just to afford to live. This means going without the medication that helps my stomach, and colon to work. I know that I will never be the same hard working, fun loving wife, and mother that I was, but I just want to be able to help support my family, and to receive the medical care that I need to stay alive. Please help to push this through. Gastroparesis is a debilitating illness, which can lead to fatal consequences. Thank you, Sherry Day.REPORT COMMENTS

Having recently been diagnosed with gastroparesis, one of the many different types of motility disorders, I know first-hand the damage and destruction this disorder can cause. It is truly life-altering. I want treatments that work. I want a cure. I want better efforts, advocacy, and funding on our behalf. We need awareness. We need help. We need treatments. We need cures. We need a year in which not one more of us has to suffer and die.REPORT COMMENTS
