The constitutionality of the modern national motto has been questioned with relationship to the separation of church and state outlined in the First Amendment. In 1970, in Aronow v. United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled that the motto does not violate the First Amendment to the Constitution. The United States Supreme Court has not ruled on the issue. My question is why haven't the surpreme court ruled on this?

In god(s) I doubt. Why should my nation's motto claim otherwise?

We must return to the only motto that has truly represented ALL Americans. I place my trust in the principles of our Constitution and that document clearly is not supportive of any god.

I request that our national motto be restored to E Pluribus Unum, a unifying phrase that respects all Americans and honors the intent of our nation's founders.

In God we trust is not conducive to the separation of church and state. It implies that God, not justice or equality, or our inaliable rights are what influence decisions that directly affect all citizenry.

E Pluribus Unum is inclusive and cohering and represents America's history and aspirations, In God we trust is divisive, overly religious, off-putting to many, and contrary to my beliefs. There is not God in which I trust. In us, we trust.

As the founder of The Original Motto Project, I highly endorse this action. It is time for a motto all Americans can be proud to say is "their motto".

E Pluribus Unum should be our national motto. It expresses the most noble ideals of our country.

Any reference to God in government is a clear, undeniable, and egregious violation of the First Amendment and should be abolished.

Some say that 'divided we fall' is implied in the original motto. It seems obvious that the god people would create division.
