I think marriage is a right to each and every person in the country, whether they are serving the military, a local businessman, a college student, or even behind bars. We are all people with real feelings and the same basic needs some more necessary than others. People who are incarcerated need to feel like they belong to a family. Like they fit in somewhere outside of jail. They need more than those citizens who are free, to feel loved and like they are an important member of their family. It helps for when they are released. If these needs go I filled it is likely to overwhelm the offender, with what exactly their role in society is...who do they talk to or where do they go will be questions they may never answer., either way, they still have the right to be a part of a family.May 26th, 2015Someone from Fort Worth, TX signed.

I understand all their pain and truly support it. I'm still currently in Texas also for the moment because my husband is still incarcerated for eight more months, but we are TOTALLY leaving this garbage state. Last Halloween we got married while he was still incarcerated within TDCJ, we got married him in Colorado. When I ssaw Colorado my whole world changed and I never looked at Texas the same way. Thank you and I love you Colorado, the owner of my heart. ♥REPORT COMMENTS

Just because these people are in prison does not mean they are bad people. They are just people who made bad choices. Being in prison is their punishment for their choices. They are paying their debt to society for their mistakes. They should not punished even further by not being allowed to marry the person they are in love with. Taking this right away from them is not going to help them at all. The mental anguish of this right taken from them could and probably will be very detrimental to them. I pray that all of you negative people, most of which I imagine call themselves Christians would stop and think about your horrible comments about other humans whom you know nothing about. Until you have walked in their shoes keep your crude comments to yourself. One day it could just be you or one of your loved ones sitting behind bars.REPORT COMMENTS

Anyone should be able to get married if they want to even someone in prison. It's our right as human beings to do so. Inmates are still human beings and shouldn't be discriminated against because they are behind bars. It's been proven that it is a positive impact on inmates to have that love and support that is everyone's right. They are already deprived of soo many things, mostly freedom. They're already locked up and doing their time and getting married doesn't change that. So Texas is violating a right that has already been given for an inmate to marry. So Texas is violating that right and should find another solution that will allow inmates to get married if they want to. It's also violating the right to the person that isn't in prison the right to marry. That's a major violation of my right to marry the person I love. Texas needs to create another solution to allow someone in prison the right to marry if they choose to. It has been proven to benefit the inmate who does get married to be a better person because they have someone in the outside world to lean on. Someone to cheer them on and give them hope. In return they are more likely to do better physically, mentally and emotionally. That has been proven to benefit the inmate and give them that desire to be a better person in every way. So they have much more incentive to be a better inmate and do their time without getting into trouble because they have love & hope for their future. Give them the right that has already been given. It's a huge injustice and aviolation of both parties rights to get married if they want to. Please find a waywto make it possible again...REPORT COMMENTS

It is true, they treat them like animals, I been with my other half for 10 years and now that his in there I can't see him because we are not maried. Is unfair to separate family's and destroy lives for some stupid rules when I'm a citizen and he is a citizen, of the united state, and we can even see each other. This is unfair for him me and my kids.REPORT COMMENTS
