Investigation into Lupron Side Effects (Leuprolide Acetate)

| The purpose of this petition is to warn others regarding the drug Lupron (Leupolide Acetate) mfg. by Takeda/Abbott Pharmaceuticals in the hope that further long-term safety studies are done before it disables or kills more women. This drug was originally marketed to treat prostate cancer patients but now is widely used for the treatment of endometriosis, infertility, fibroids/ovarian cysts and even precocious puberty. Many women are continuing to suffer the side effects long after taking their last dose even though their doctor and the pharmaceutical company states that the side effects should go away within 3-6 months. Side effects include but are not limited to: hot flashes, memory loss, tachycardia, hematura, hypotension, dizziness, insomnia, anxiety, depression, Vitamin D deficiency, constant gnawing bone/joint pain, osteoarthritis, osteopenia, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, degenerative disc disease, autoimmune diseases, blood disorders, cancer and many others including death and yet not one long term study has been conducted. It is devastating to us that we agreed to take an FDA approved drug under the care of our physician whom we trusted only to find ourselves sicker than you could imagine ---- in pain and unable to get the proper treatment or even believed that Lupron caused our problems. We hereby request that an investigation be undertaken into the short term and long term effects of Lupron on women. We further request that all outcomes and results of such trials be released and published so that both patients and doctors alike may have the benefit of all the information regarding this drug. | |

Humans should not be used as lab rats! Lupron did not save my reproductive organs and it damaged my joints. 36 and suffering from osteoarthritis. Take 1/2 of the money spent on advertising and do what you can to ease the pain of people whose bodies are irreparably damaged. This comment has been reported to the site manager. My father is currently dying in a nursing home from side effects directly related to Lupron. He was led to believe that side effects were minimal and only affect a small percentage of the population. Not so. My father was given Lupron as a follow up treatment for prostate cancer, after Brachytherapy. He began to have a severe skin allergy reaction. The doctors told him it was contact dermatitis. Then they gave him massive doses of prednisone to combat the skin condition. The rash subsided. 4 months later, after a second 4 month Lupron depot injection, he got the rash back. This time his GP told him it was a reaction to Lupron. For 4 months he was in agony. This wasn't a small rash - it was scaling, raised, painful, itchy and covered 60% of his body. He began to have shortness of breath and then his legs swelled massively. He could not walk. He has been tested for everything from congestive heart failure and back again. His PSA levels are low, but the rest of his body is failing. He is now diagnosed with: ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome); his lungs are fibrotic; he has pulmonary blood clots; he has lost the function in his legs; his blood does not stay oxygenated without CPAP blasting 100% oxygen into his lungs; his pancreas is failing and he is in sheer misery. He will have a tracheostomy shortly-today or tomorrow, so I will not be able to speak to him again. I'll never hear the sound of his voice, my beloved dad, again. And I am told he has a month or less to live. My mom died 2 months ago, and now my dad. His NEW GP says that Lupron can be traced as a direct contributing factor to all his bodily systems that are failing. The Lupron caused the allergic reaction that needed multiple treatments. The multiple treatments caused other bodily system failures which have now progressed to a life threatening status. Aggressive therapy for prostate cancer is highly debated among medical experts. My father was 76 years old at the time of diagnosis. What did he need aggressive radiation, Brachytherapy and Lupron FOR? Not for this, that's for sure. This is horrific. My dad is a Korean War Veteran, and worked in CA as a Legal Document Assistant helping the poor and unfortunate for the last 10 years of his life. Before that he was an insurance VP. He has been a champion for the underdog all of his life. He did not deserve a death like this. Lupron is devasting. Lupron is a legal poison. People are being murdered with this disgusting drug. It is very unfair. The public is being duped. An investigation is certainly in order, and long overdue. I remember Thalidomide and babies born without limbs and other horrors -and they're bringing that NIGHTMARE back onto the market. When will the FDA really start protecting US, the tax paying public, from these pharmaceutical Dr Frankensteins? That's what I would like to know. I have been abandoned by my own government; and so has my father, who fought with his life to protect this government while he was in the NaThis comment has been reported to the site manager. Lupron is a dangerous drug being used on women who are already in pain. The doctors tell us it is safe and there won't be any bad side effects, thats a lie! It has caused nothing but grief for me and it has made my life harder! I have had to spend money on medical bills due to the side effects of Lupron! It needs to be banned! This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

My doctor gave me lupron injections for 6 months to control the excessive bleeding and endometriosis. Since the beginning I notified my doctor of the side affects I was experiencing while I was on the drug. My doctor would just say it was normal. Its been two months now that I have been off the drug and I am still very sick. I have been to the hospital three times because of severe lower abdomen pain, lower back pain, dizziness, headaches, and joint pains. My knees are always aching and sometimes feel like they are burning. I researched about the possible side affects of lupron before taking the drug and read the drug facts that my doctor gave me. Every time I had a severe side affects like headaches, depression, back pain, bleeding while I was on the drug, and the label states to call your doctor right away about the side affects. I did just that and he said it was nothing to worry about. After reading this investigation into Lupron side affects I feel like my doctor did not care about my health. How could he do this to me? I feel confused and betrayed. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!
