Vote NO on Assault Weapons Excise Act (Tax) HR 5135
This bill imposes an additional 1000% excise tax on large capacity ammunition feeding devices and semiautomatic assault weapons. It exempts from such additional tax devices and weapons acquired by the United States or by a state or local government.
The AR-15 sells for about $500 today and Donald Beyer is trying to add a $4500 tax to the purchase. My Beyer and the co-sponsors are totally insane. Why don't you are trying to put the gun manufacturers out of business
Would someone in Comgress please explain to Donald Beyer, that most law abiding Americans do not have assault weapons. Assault weapons are used by the military and the police and criminals. Criminals, who have such weapons means that the DOJ is responsible for tracking and investigating them and putting them in jail, and the stupid excise tax means nothing to them, because they acquire them illegally.
Before we dive into the history of the modern AR 15 Rifle, we need to look the “AR” part. AR does not stand for Assault Rifle. Or Automatic Rearming. Or even Apoplectic Ruin. It is a product naming convention from the company that invented it, ArmaLite. In fact, there were a number of rifles with “AR” names, like the AR-1, AR-5, AR-7, AR-10, AR-16 and AR-1.
This bill needs to be stopped immediately, because it is nothing more than an added tax burden put on the common American citizen and killing the gun industry.
