Urge U.S. Congress to End Iraq’s Financial Blockade on Kurdistan

We respectfully urge the United States Congress to take immediate and decisive action to end the Iraqi government’s financial blockade against the Kurdistan Region. For an extended period, the Government of Iraq has unlawfully withheld constitutionally mandated budgetary allocations and salaries owed to the Kurdish people, resulting in profound economic hardship, humanitarian distress, and jeopardizing the stability of a crucial U.S. partner in the Middle East.

The Kurdish people have consistently demonstrated unwavering support and partnership with the United States, notably in the joint efforts to combat ISIS and to promote democratic governance and regional security. This enduring alliance has been instrumental to advancing U.S. strategic interests and fostering peace in a volatile region.

At this critical juncture, it is imperative that the United States reaffirm its commitment to this valued partnership by condemning Iraq’s use of economic coercion against the Kurdish population. The withholding of funds undermines the livelihoods of countless public servants and civilians, threatening both humanitarian conditions and broader regional stability.

Accordingly, we call upon Congress to publicly denounce Iraq’s economic suppression of Kurdistan, to advocate for the immediate release of all withheld financial resources, and to ensure that U.S. foreign policy prioritizes the protection of Kurdish rights and well-being.

Supporting the Kurdish people is not only a moral obligation but a strategic necessity that contributes to peace, security, and justice in the Middle East. We implore Congress to act swiftly and decisively to uphold these principles and stand firmly with Kurdistan during this time of crisis.
