No misuse of UNSC veto to shield criminal behavior! UN Protection Force to the occupied Palestinian Territories UN2oPts!
Dear Mr. President,
Senators, Representative,
United Nations human rights experts have warned that violence, including
assaults and property destruction, by Israeli settlers against Palestinian civilians in the occupied West Bank have increased substantially in recent months.
During the first three months of 2021, more than 210 settler violent incidents were recorded, which included one Palestinian death.
Last year, 2020, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) documented 771 incidents of settler violence causing injury to 133 Palestinians and damaging 9,646 trees and 184 vehicles. These incidents occurred mostly in the areas of Hebron,
Jerusalem, Nablus and Ramallah.
The Israeli government, wary of the power of the ultra-right settler groups is unwilling to intervene.
In the last few days, these same settler groups marched through Jerusalem shouting "Death to Arabs" and "let's burn their villages down."
Again, the government of Israel did nothing.
This is most disturbing, to say the least.
Another disturbing thing to me personally is the historic use of the United Nations Security Council veto to shield Israel from answering for the crimes it commits. No individual, group, or state is above the law.
To grant Israel a favored nation status that includes immunity from prosecution for any criminal behavior it engages in is not in the best interests of the citizens of the United States, it is harmful to Israel itself as it encourages human rights abuses carried out with impunity, and it is patently unfair to the collective world community.
This misuse of the UNSC veto power that we have historically seen by the U.S. where Israel is concerned is ludicrous.
Every time the United Nations General Assembly wants to investigate charges of abuse by Israel, the USA vetoes any substantive action which could be done in the cause of justice.
These actions encourage global oppression and repression on the part of some governments and give rise to despots, dictators, and tyrants. Those who live by the creed, "Might makes Right."
The UNSC veto was never intended to be used to shield an individual or country from answering for its crimes, yet this is what my government has done time after time as regards Israel.
That being said, this gross misuse of the UNSC veto must immediately STOP.
Believing that the USA will always prevent justice from being served, Israel acts with impunity. Even with an impending investigation by the International Criminal Court, human rights violations continue to rapidly climb.
The historic, alarming rise in violence against the Palestinians, half of whom are children, by the IDF, Israeli police, and the settlers, must be addressed and it is clear that the Israeli government will not do anything to stop it.
It is time that a carefully selected, thoroughly trained, and highly supervised UN Protection Force be sent to the occupied territories to protect the Palestinian civilian population and that the US not prevent it by another UNSC veto.
The occupation has gone on for decades and with the passage of the Jewish nation-state bill into law, Israel has become an apartheid state.
We need to do the right thing and provide Palestinians the protection they are due under international law something which Israel refuses to do.
This petition is a call to President Biden and the U.S. Congress to finally do the right thing! Allow the UN Security Council to send a UN Protection Force to the occupied Palestinian territories, suggested by the UN Secretary-General, to protect the Palestinian civilians, half of whom are children! UN2oPts!
