The People Balanced Budget Law

We, The People, having come to the conclusion that Congress (as in those persons that form the bodies of the House and Senate), and, to an extent, the White House (as in those persons that form the executive branch) have lost their ability to set and maintain a budget that is in the Peoples' best interest, demand a law be drafted and put up for vote by the People (as in a country wide general vote) the following:

1. All members of the legislative and executive branch will forfeit any sums of money that are paid by the taxes of the People until such time as a balanced budget is passed annually.

2. Congress shall no longer have the right to use continuing resolutions, as they have proven their inability to solve any problem they leave for later. If Congress as a whole cannot solve a problem while they are in session, they forfeit the right to pay from the taxes of the People until such time as they resolve the matter.

3. No member of the federal government has the right to vote themselves a pay raise; should federal members feel the need to have a raise, they shall forthwith request such a raise by requesting a country wide general vote. Since it is the Peoples' monies that pay for these raises, the People should get a direct say in whether they think their representation deserves such.

4. No member of the House or Senate shall serve longer than 8 years.

5. No member of the federal government shall enjoy benefits of their office once they cease to serve it; as the People are not guaranteed to a retirement pension (such as Social Security) nor healthcare or insurance, neither should the People be forced to give such benefits to their representatives after they leave office.

6. No member of the federal government shall earn more than their federally mandated pay; the offices they are elected to are civil service. They are meant to serve the will of the People, not to get rich off of what they can control while within those offices.

7. Notwithstanding the legality of the language used in this bill, these laws should go into effect with all due haste; under no circumstances should these laws be allowed to be modified or struck down without the express consent of the People (via a country wide general vote).
