The Fair Sentencing Act Law Need To Be Retroactive, and Apply To Both Federal & State!

The men and women are currently serving entirely too much time & long harsh prison term under the old law for drug convictions, where other offenders who have done worse things such as rape and molestation get lesser time.

President Barack Obama,

Sen. Bob Casey Jr. (D PA),

Sen. Arlen Specter (D PA),

Rep. Robert A. Brady (D PA-1)

Thank you President Obama and Congress for signing the Fair Sentencing Act Law On August 3, 2010!!Please make this law retroactive, and apply to both Federal & State,

The men and women are currently serving entirely too much time & long harsh prison term under the old law for drug convictions, where other offenders who have done worse things such as rape and molestation get lesser time. There are people that?s convicted for murder who received the same time as someone that was convicted for 5g crack,500 g power cocaine-50 g crack 5,000 g powder cocaine ect:? EVERYBODY'S CASE IS DIFFERENT? I?m fully aware of that! However a good friend received 10years with NO prior conviction! When a man that rape a child get 11 ½ - 23 MONTHS"If That"WITH prior conviction?WOW? I am/we asking that those incarcerated before the new law get the chance to have fair sentencing as well. The new law is not retroactive which means the changes to mandatory minimum sentences do not benefit anyone who has been already convicted & currently serving harsh prison terms. Our prison system is flooded with low-level drug offenders and non-violent offenders under the old crack disparity law. We are only asking that the sentence fit the crime. Please reunite loved ones with their families ASAP, and please make this law retroactive and not just for Federal, but for State as well.

I pray that not just this petition but many letters reach Congress in consideration of making the fair sentencing act of 2010 retroactive. I feel that this will be a relief and blessing for many families! Give the men & women another chance to rebuild their images and come home with their families. I pray that the hearts of the people who make decisions on laws would just observe the situation at MANY angles, instead of focusing on setting an example! The inmates & I understand that it won?t happen overnight for Congress to get many people back in court! But Congress should keep in mind that this will bless many families. These individuals can never get their time lost back, nor can the children of these incarcerated individuals get the time lost with their parents. However we can start now, with a new beginning!! I pray that Congress make this happen ASAP. It will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

Thank you for reading this letter!

Sincerely,

Vanessa Tompkins
