Tell PETLAND USA to Stop Using Puppy Mills
Puppies that come from a puppy mill often have health and/or social problems due to the poor environment of the mill and of the transportation to the store.
Target: Petland USA Founder and Chairman Ed Kunzelman and Petland President Frank Difatta
Goal: Stop Petland USA from purchasing 95% of their animals from commercial puppy mills.
Petland, a chain of international retail pet stores, acquires many of the pets they sell from commercial puppy mills. Commercial puppy mills are barbaric. They place profit above animal welfare. Puppy mills keep the dogs in overcrowded and unsanitary cages. Often times the dogs do not receive adequate food, water, or exercise. To make waste cleanup easier, the dogs are frequently kept in cages with wire bottoms that hurt their paws. The puppies are taken from their mothers at five to six weeks old, instead of the recommended eight to ten week period. Puppies that come from a puppy mill often have health and/or social problems due to the poor environment of the mill and of the transportation to the store.
Petland Canada has announced they will no longer sell animals. Petland USA needs to follow Petland Canada?s lead. The US Department of Agriculture records for more than five states shows Petland USA had at least 17,000 puppies from puppy mills delivered to their stores. Considering Petland is a franchise they cannot dictate everyone follow a new policy, but they can announce their intention and make a new policy, which current Petland businesses would hopefully chose to follow.
Please, tell Petland USA to stop their support of inhumane commercial puppy mills.
