Stop unfair credit reporting being used in the job hiring process

A lot of people credit are low do to the recession

I am writing regarding my concerns about the United States job market, due to unnecessary employment practices used by many companies. I was offered a job with a corporation in New York, after I successfully passed the background investigation, which included verifying my criminal and educational records, and testing my technology skills. Just before starting the position I was told by HR I was denied the job due to my credit report. I feel this is discrimination to deny someone employment due to a personal credit report. There is a need for legislation to end the practice of using credit reports as decisive factor for employment.

The United States is experiencing the worst recession since the 1930?s. The finance, banking, insurance, and automobile industry played a large part in creating this recession debacle. Many wealthy people used the capitalist system unethically to their advantage and left thousands of homes across America in foreclosure, bankruptcy on the rise, increased consumer debt, and businesses without access to capital, leading to the highest unemployment rate in 20 years. Due to these financial misfortunes many Americans credit reports are not up to good standard. Under the circumstances, employers should not be allowed to use personal credit report information to evaluate whether a person has the ability and desire to perform the task of the job and rules of the company. This practice is not helping the job creation and unemployment issues by preventing Americans from obtaining employment.

If companies continue this practice, how are American people supposed to get back on their feet to address any credit reporting issues? Do companies realize because of the recession how many people have low credit scores now?

The same people who are creating these rules are the ones stealing the money from the companies and the American people. How many CEO?s have been to caught with their hands in the cookie jar? How many stock brokers have been sent to jail for stealing money?

The government?s many stimulus packages is used as a way to deal with the unemployment problem. While we are grateful for the help, unemployment checks will only take you so far. Financially juggling to keeping a roof over your head, feeding your kids, paying your light bills, having clean clothes, soap and other toiletries you need, there will be some bills that will be missed. Again, as I stated earlier, because the current economic situation is not by fault of our own, why should we have to continue to suffer? What good are putting the jobs out there if the companies are not going to hire us? Something must be done to get millions of Americans back to work. Legislation to end employers from requesting access to personal credit reports to determine employment will be a first step.
