Stop Funding Unauthorized Military Interventions
The United States Constitution clearly states that only Congress has the power to declare war. Yet, for decades, successive administrations have used broad and outdated Authorizations for Use of Military Force (AUMFs) to justify military actions abroad—without meaningful oversight or debate in Congress. This practice has not only eroded democratic checks and balances, but also entangled our nation in endless conflicts that cost lives and resources.
These military engagements, often initiated without transparent objectives or exit strategies, have led to instability in regions like the Middle East and North Africa. American troops are placed in harm’s way, and innocent civilians abroad are caught in the crossfire. Billions of taxpayer dollars are diverted from domestic needs—such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure—to finance wars that many Americans did not vote for and do not support.
We urge Congress to reassert its constitutional authority over war powers by repealing outdated AUMFs and withholding funds for any future military intervention that lacks formal Congressional approval. This is not only a legal necessity, but also a moral obligation to ensure accountability in how our nation uses its military force.
It's time to end perpetual war. Let us redirect our resources to building peace at home and abroad, and restore the democratic principles that have been undermined by unchecked executive military action. We call on every member of Congress to take a stand for constitutional governance and responsible foreign policy.
