Senator Paul places hold on US security assistance to Israel.
I am writing in support of Senator Rand Paul's decision to place a hold on SB 2497 – United States-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act of 2018, which will provide Israel with $38 billion in military aid over the next decade. The bill, introduced by Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), will finance and support abuses against Palestinian children in the Israeli military detention system and violate their basic human rights. It is appalling that we continue to support Israel’s violations of human rights against the Palestinians by continuing to fund their military.
Israel has the most powerful military in the world, provides universal health care and low-cost higher education – luxuries we do not have in the U.S. , yet we continue to give Israel money annually without first helping the citizens and taxpayers of the U.S. This bill steals money and opportunity from the U.S. taxpayer, when now more than ever, it is important for the U.S. to invest in itself.
I urge you to support Senator Rand Paul and help end the U.S. support of human rights violations.
